Words feel difficult to grasp trying to describe racing at the world championship races.  The best way to see our experiences is to watch Gavin’s video.  Check it out!  Multisport World Championships Ibiza 2023 The planning and preparation for international travel kept Dad occupied for months.  In addition to travel plans, preparation for the races required a lot of attention as well.  Passports, plane tickets, bike cases, bike transport, race gear.  The list always seemed to grow.   When the day came to depart, Dad’s diligent work paid off.  Everyt ..read more

Northeast Park Duathlon 2023

Northeast Park Duathlon launched not only the 2023 racing season but also Gavin’s return to racing.  After tearing his ACL in May of 2022, Gavin strived for a strong recovery with this race in his sight.  The boys prepared for the damp 40 degree forecast, but knew they needed to exercise caution on the wet course.  Lined up together for the bunch sprint, they split up and settled into their own rhythms once on the course.  Although Gavin remained ahead of Brody and Chase throughout the race, Brody’s and Chase’s individual strengths kept them jockeying for position until the ..read more

Brody’s Bike Upgrade

With three boys racing in triathlons and duathlons from the time our oldest was seven years old, it often feels like we are purchasing at least one new bike every year.  In the spring of 2022, Brody was ready for a bigger bike.  His taking the podium in multiple adult duathlons this summer proved that he was ready for a more serious racing bike.  Our bike shop– Philbricks in Dover, NH– is always fantastic!  The staff ensures the boys have a bike that is a perfect fit.  After testing a couple options, Brody and the staff agreed that the Cervelo Caledonia 105 was the bes ..read more

Race mornings often hit hard!  Forcing the body to awaken.  Race-day jitters.  Racking bikes.  Convincing the body it needs nutrition and energy.  All this followed by a long drive.  However, the Wallis Sands Triathlon-Duathlon offers some perks!  The drive is shorter than most races, but we still arrive in the dark.  Once the boys check in and prepare their transition areas, the sun gently emerges from the horizon prompting racers to begin stretching and warming up.  Racers enjoy the course as it follows the contours of the Atlantic coast before he ..read more

We closed out the summer of 2022 with an amazing opportunity by attending the Maryland Cycling Classic over Labor Day Weekend!  This was the only UCI Pro-Series race hosted in the United States.  Four of the 16 teams participating were world tour teams– Team BikeExchange-Jayco, EF Education-EasyPost, Israel-Premier Tech, and Trek-Segafredo!  The weekend kicked off with team presentations on Friday night.  Cheering our loudest, we wanted all teams to feel welcomed and excited about this race.  Saturday morning, we traveled a little north of Baltimore with the hopes of m ..read more

Live Free and Tri is one of our favorite races!  The course is set in scenic Freedom, NH on Ossipee Lake which provides gorgeous mountain vistas.  Brody and Chase competed in the sprint duathlon which consisted of a 2 mile run, a 10.83 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run.  Volunteering on the bike course, Mom and Dad were able to cheer for Brody and Chase as they approached the end of their bike ride.  Gavin positioned himself on the course to take pics of Brody and Chase while biking and running.  Fifteen athletes competed in this du.  Brody placed third overall; Chase ..read more

Not only is The Wolf Tri a new race, but this was Chase’s first adult sprint duathlon.  Mom prepared Brody and Chase’s breakfast while Dad packed the car.  Around 5:00am, we hit the road for Wolfeboro, NH.  After unracking the bikes, Dad discovered one of Brody’s tires had a flat.  Thankfully Philbricks’ staff was onsite to provide a quick change!  Registration and transition bustled with people since over 300 racers participated.  Again Gavin coached Brody and Chase through race prep, but the two of them were on their own in transition.  Brody started ..read more

Since the majority of our races are at least an hour from home, one of the things we love about the Dam Sprint Triathlon + Duathlon is how close to home it is!  This affords us the opportunity to attend packet pick-up the evening before the race.  Gavin’s ACL injury placed him in a coaching position this year, and Brody appreciated Gavin’s suggestion that we drive the bike course before heading home.  Race day started with a beautiful sunrise, but the temperature was quite chilly.  Gavin’s experience from last year’s race enabled him to guide Brody through race set up and p ..read more

This was a very special day for our family!  Over five years ago, Mom sustained a life-altering injury that prevents her from running.  Chase regretted that he wasn’t able to race with mom (due to his age at the time).  Tri for Jimmy provided an excellent opportunity for our family.  Mom and Chase were finally able to race together!  By offering a super sprint duathlon, Mom was able to compete by walking the short distance run segments while Chase competed in his first adult race.  As a budding duathlete, Brody competed in the sprint duathlon.  Although Mom a ..read more
