I’m headed to pa and staying in a air bnb in Waterville. Never hunted turkeys in such hilly terrain. Any tips? I see parking lots at the top the hills are turkeys that high? What elevation would they be around. submitted by /u/G19outdoors [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can I hunt with my friend's rifle? (I have a hunting license+tags but no gun permit)

I think I know the answer to this one, but here goes: My friend is an avid hunter and he's invited me to join on a hunt. I am v interested, and in fact already have a PA hunting license (I did it to get some hunting knowledge). I can also buy tags before we go. However, I don't have a gun permit and have never owned a gun. Still, I'm comfortable with guns, from gun ranges. Long term plan is to get a gun permit anyway. Plan is to join him as a non-hunter, to watch and learn. But, is there a completely legal way to actually also hunt if he lends me his rifle? submitted by /u/Tasty-Comfor ..read more

So I'm looking to hunt for the first time this year and buy my first rifle Savage AXIS XP Combo .308 Win Bolt-Action Rifle I'm on Hunter Ed, it's $34 for the course I'm only going to buy 1 certificate for $0 but it recommends I get 2 ($16) Is this necessary? I'm also doing online so I don't have to commute or schedule something out of work. Any advice or tips would be great! If it sounds like a solid plan feel free to reassure! Turkey Question

I live on a 120~ acre farm in SE PA (mostly cattle and horses). I’ve never seen a turkey on the farm. However, 5-10 miles away there are turkeys. Is there anything I can do to manage the farm to get a consistent turkey population? The farm is 30% wooded and 70% fields. We have a healthy whitetail population. We have our fair share of raccoons, foxes and two coyotes that come by every month or so. Are there too many predators to support a turkey flock? Do I just have to wait/hope that they eventually migrate to the farm? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Wo ..read more

Hello there, I am a new hunter out of the Philadelphia area. I'm interested in both archery and rifle hunting and have gear for both(mostly interested in whitetail but open to others also) I understand the rules on paper as well as watched countless hours and videos about all aspects of hunting. I don't come from a hunting background or have any friends that hunt. This is a new pastime that I hope to pass on to my children one day. I'm in my mid 30s, family guy, like to nerd out and drink also (if that matters) I frequent outdoor ranges and am familiar with firearms (not an expert by any mean ..read more

Is climbing trees on public land during off season permitted?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but new hunter here looking looking to go archery hunting for the first time next season. For when I want to hunt off the ground in a tree I plan to saddle hunt. I already have the saddle, sticks, platform, etc.. but haven't used it yet. The trees available in my small back yard are questionable for climbing, so I'm wondering if it's against any sort of regulation to climb trees for practice, specifically on public/state forest land that I plan to hunt. I may also hang some trail cams this way. Only thing I can find online is "dont damage the tree" which I w ..read more

Hey guys. I'm not in PA but I'm hoping you don't mind my post here. I'm in grad school out in Colorado and am starting to get into hunting, so figured I'd kill two birds with one stone for a project and see what'd be important in a hunting app. I've got my own opinions but I know y'all have strong ones too and they're probably based on more experience....Could you take ~5m to answer a short handful of questions here? That's a link to a Microsoft Forms survey. Or, if you prefer a short chat about it, grab some time here (calendly link) and let's talk. HUGE thanks to anybody that shares their o ..read more
