I suppose this may not belong here, but looking at VA and their growing number of partnerships closer to *A, UA, NH, SQ, I wonder if it will come back to NZ once the QF partnership ends?
Does anyone know when the QF partnership would finish? How do you rate this partnership and would it be easier if VA considers *A? I see its now back to profit in 2023 after 11 years in the red ..read more

Yesterday, ANZ said my return trip home from Auckland to SFO in November is being delayed a day. Since I have 7 days to either agree or disagree with this change, what is the chance that they will do this again before my flight home in November?
The reason I'm weighing my options, is that:
1) I've heard it takes an act of God to get a refund for that portion of my ticket and
2) my sister is travelling on United on the same route home. So I can either have her change her flight home to match my ANZ flight time or ask for a refund.
Anyone have any insights into this situation? Thanks ..read more

I mused over lunchtime today on what impact these domestic fare increases have on the Airpoints program, specifically the ‘value’ on Airpoint Dollar ($AP) earn pre- and post- fare increase. I used just one sector to take a deeper look:
WLG-AKL Y class Flexi-Refund ($456 up to $530). The earn remains unchanged at 17 $AP and 36 SP despite the fare increase.
Prior to the fare increase, if I wanted to earn enough $AP to buy this fare it would take 456/17= 26.8 trips
This would cost 26.8x$456 = $12,221.
(yes, I know you can’t do fractions of a trip - but let’s keep the math pure)

Hey,
I've seen it mentioned on here that the domestic connections to international flights are booked as the equivalent of flexichange flights - i.e. can change to earlier/later flights.
Assuming so, is this something that the call centre can change on the day, or have to ask at the airport?
Partner booked TT through corporate portal which only allowed selection of flights with shortest connection, and wondering if it can be changed to an earlier flight ..read more

It has been a while since I've flown WLG-CHC but I flew north on an Airbus where the offering has always been a water and a snack (I think there is a Koru Hour) , but flying south today I nodded off om my ATR and thought I had missed the tea trolley. No I hadn't, ' we don't do tea of coffee of the WLG-CHC run as the sector is too short'. Really? $500 return fare says it was easy money ..read more

Hi all,
I've got a multistop itinerary coming up, but I'm no longer traveling on the initial leg (WLG-CHC) but want to keep the second leg (ZQN-WLG). Flight is not flexi, is seat only. I've tried to change it online, but I cannot push out the first leg later than the second leg - nor can I cancel just one segment.
If I no-show for the first flight, will the second get the chop from AirNZ ..read more

I was surprised to learn recently that when there is an equipment downgrade or other circumstance that requires offloading passengers the primary consideration in choosing who is offloaded is the fare paid for that particular flight.
There is a lesser consideration of connecting flights but no consideration of frequent flyer status, lifetime revenue, lifetime status or any other loyalty metrics.
I think that's a very transactional view for AirNZ to take, but it is what it is and now I know, and so do you.
If like me you have also found the call back option not working when you call the call ..read more

Hi all
does anyone have any recent experience of transit through PVG en route to LHR.
As per:
https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/transiting-via-shanghai
It seems I dont need a visa (of any sort), nor to collect my bags.
is it an easy transfer (still T2) or like the states?
Best lounge access? Air NZ Elite and One World Emerald. to PVG in J then to LHR in PE on BA. Cathay lounge?
TIA ..read more
