Looking for a Cover for my Hand Brace
Dwerden Forum

I seem to be getting some scratches and marks on my Adams E3 hand brace from use. I have had this horn almost 8 years. Here is a picture of what I am talking about: DSCN5594.JPG Anyone have any ideas on what kind of "cover" I could get for the hand brace? I thought about duct tape, but not for long. I think something in leather might be nice. I am hoping there is already something out there that might work. Attached Images DSCN5594.JPG (3.24 MB ..read more

New inlays from Martin Wilk

IMG_3060.jpgIMG_3061.jpg Purchased a 981 Eb Bass in February and I’ve always wanted to do something to personalize one of my horns. Found Mr. Martin Wilk online and reached out to him. We went over samples and the light pink with the convex top caught my eye. Didn’t like at first, but over a couple days the pink grew on me. Shipped away the finger buttons and waited. The wait was worth it. Elegant. Simple. Perfect. Yes. I’m a girl who plays bass and I love pink. ? Attached Images IMG_3060.jpg (21.4 KB) IMG_3061.jpg (19.8 KB ..read more

Mack Brass gets good reviews, and they offer a bit of service vs. just buying a Jin Bao "off the rack." This one is in very nice condition, includes the original case, and is priced at about 2/3 of a new one: $800. https://www.ebay.com/itm/386895262292 See the listing for many more photos. s-l1600.jpg s-l1600.jpg Attached Images s-l1600.jpg (508.7 KB) s-l1600.jpg (436.6 KB ..read more

Cleaning dirty valve caps
Dwerden Forum

Hello, I noticed the top caps on my valves have accumulated dirt in the grooves (that you grip to unscrew to pull the piston out). Any suggestions to clean these grooves? I know an old toothbrush could get in there but I'm wondering what cleaning agent would be best or would it be silver polish? Picture of what I'm talking about attached. How We Use our Fingers on the Valves
Dwerden Forum

I don't see much about the actual manner in which we use our fingers on the valves of our horns. And what is interesting to me are two different methods. I am only talking here about the three fingers we use on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd valves, be they upright as in the 3 + 1 euphoniums or front facing as in the euphoniums/baritones of the American ilk like Conns, Kings and Olds that have 3 front facing valves and usually front facing bells. I pretty much use my fingers on the valves by placing the end (finger tip) on the valve buttons/caps. And I have the joints of my fingers slightly bent. Here ..read more

Question about low euphonium playing
Dwerden Forum
by hyperbolica

There's a long sordid story behind this question, but I won't inflict it on you if you don't ask. Short version is that I want to play low notes on the euph. Sold my tuba, trying to avoid bass trombone. I've got a Festivo, and holding down that pinky valve a lot in low passages is a bit of a pain, but I can deal with that. I have a number of bass bone mouthpieces and a Marcinkiewicz (sp?) 1, which I'm not sure how to classify. I had a King 2280 for a while which seemed to have an uncanny proclivity for low notes. So if I wanted to avoid tuba and bass bone, how could I do that on euphonium? Wh ..read more

Hi All, I recently posted a new recording of the first movement from the Concerto for Euphonium by the late great Belgian Composer François Glorieux on my Youtube channel. François Glorieux (27 August 1932 – 22 September 2023) was a Belgian pianist, conductor, composer, musicologist, and academic teacher who performed internationally. As a pianist, he received the Harriet Cohen International Music Award in 1967, toured in Germany and Austria with conductor André Cluytens, and later focused on improvisation. He conducted orchestras such as the BBC Radio Orchestra, bands such as Stan Kenton's ..read more
