my first year growing these cabbages, i picked up 6 plants last fall on a lark, and they are now fairly impressive at over 3 ft.
just brought a little basket of leaves into the kitchen . perfect little leaves for cabbage rolls. now, if the bugs don't get the sprouts ......
we do these cabbage things (beassica) as fall and winter crops, i'm sure they will be bolting soon as well.
my lettuce is already bolting. i'll let those seeds form and then reuse that bed. maybe butternut squash? or...

You know how in the Spring, some of it grows really tall and in other spots it isn't ready to cut yet?
Well that's how it is.
The places where the dog peed all winter are really tall. I guess from all of the nitrogen.
So it's been in the 70s lately.
I'm gonna have to just go do it.
But then once you do it the first time, then you have to do it every week after that.
At the moment, the excuse I'm floating around is that I might need to change the spark plugs in the mowers. Ha ..read more

That's my favorite time to do it. Not when it's pouring, mind you. Just when there's a nice, steady Spring-like sprinkle all day. Everything rakes up much nicer. And something about doing it during a nice, warm Spring rain seems to fuel the soul. Can't quite put my finger on it.
Anyway. It's gonna be raining over the next few days so gonna go out and do that. Then maybe topseed the lawn wit hsome 80/20 when everything's raked up ..read more

Do all of you fellow gardeners have any plans for this year?
Last Fall I prepped a long strip on my southern facing fence line. I turned the soil added lots of compost and laid on 3 inches of mulch to get it ready for the 100 sunflowers I will be planting. I have a couple different varieties in mind ranging from the 3 foot to the 12 foot tall flowers of varying colors.
This is one of my personal favorites
