Watching a master gardener plant a tomatoe plant on its side, pinching off lower leaves and flowers, and just leaving the top of the plant to grow. Anyone try this? He said it will make a lot more tomatoes and last longer ..read more

I wanted to share my experience with Bad Boy Mower. Bought a zero turn mower 52" on sale at Tractor Supply, used the paint off of it for years. When I finally decided to get a bigger mower, I cleaned up the mower and sold it for almost what I paid for it. That mower did not only hold good value for resale, but sold in 15 minutes on FB marketplace. Bad Boy mowers are strong, durable and easy to repair. Many youtube vides out there for self help and maintenance. Well, I bet you can... Zero Turn Mower ..read more

Being a fan of purple top turnips, I was curious how these Asian varieties would fare in the garden and on the table. I grew them in one of my HK containers and started them a bit late as the hot weather is now upon us. They did not disappoint, however...in fact, they are really good raw with salt. Noticeably milder taste than purple tops. Also, considerably sweeter. Easy to grow, white, and smaller than purples, I definitely give them ? and will grow a crop of them next fall. I'm also... Harvested my turmeric crop the other day, Processed, re-habbed the pots and replanted for next season. I have decided I had too many plants in each pot as this years crop was crowded and did not grow as well as previous seasons. So I have some rhizomes left that I will not use. Anyone want some? Brazosport area. PM me and I will give you my phone ..read more

Broccoli Processing

When a family that loves fresh broccoli cancelled out on us for their Christmas visit, I was left with a surplus of broccoli. What to do? No problem: Process it into freezer bags. Step 1: Harvest it. Ideally, this should happen before the yellow flowerets begin to show in the heads. I had scheduled these 8 heads averaging about a pound each to be ready for the company just before... I saw some of you had tried these a couple years back but no updates on how they did?? I got one from Guerney about that time- first year it got to about a foot and a half and even a few bb sized grapes, nipped all but one bunch. Last yr maybe 3 ft x 2 feet wide ,small vines and some buckshot size grapes. Nice taste what little i had! Seems like fairly anemic growth to me for $50! Plenty of sun and water planted in fairly sandy soil here. Wondered what luck the rest of you had ..read more
