I find these meet the nexus of 'obscure/underappreciated,' 'under-documented yet numerous,' and 'unique/interesting' that makes my research bulb go off.
Starting with mine (on both the bracelets it apparently could come with, at various times). Sorry for the non-standard seconds hand:
This watch (in particular the dished-dial variant) is nearly anti-Grammar of Design. To go down the checklist:

A while ago I was stumbling at Yahoo auctions, and somehow I got on the Mercari shopping site. Sometime you can find a great deal there, and this time I did really hit the jackpot:
To find a NOS Seiko A860-4001 Talking watch with box and even the unused user manual for about $60 is a great deal. I didn't have to think long about it. I only saw this watch on a picture before, and it is not a very handsome watch, but in real life it is also not that bad.
A few days ago the watch arrived. I...

Hey folks,
My dad passed away a few years ago, and I'm looking for a watch that he used to wear in the mid 1990s (probably purchased new in the 1990s). It's a bit tricky though, because I don't know anything about watches, and I'm searching just based on details I remember as a kid. I think I'm close though.
Here's my question: Is there a Seiko watch model that is the 7N00-7008, but with a 7N43 movement? 7N00-7008 is VERY close as it has the right black dial, the right hour markers...

This thread is meant to prevent other users buying fake Lord Marvel of the type 5740-8000. There are many fakes out there. As I don't posses all the wisdom and knowledge, please ad you knowledge to this thread, making it a usefuls buyers guide for others. It's an iconic watch, with great design and performance.
The life of the 5740-8000 began in early 1966, when the first model came around. These models have the low-beat 5740B mounted, and the dial is also a bit different from the later 36K...

I own a few vintage citizen pieces which I think are 7200s, these have high beat, hand wind, and hacking. whereas the modern day miyotas- the 8200s- really only have hand wind (and maybe some of them hack?) I guess my (probably dumb) question is what are the advantages modern miyotas have over these vintage citizen movements? I mean besides they're probably cheaper to produce, but why not just bring back the 7200s ..read more

I have this watch for 3 years now, and I never got it running good. Until now. I am speaking of a Seiko Super Chronometer 1130 from the early 50's. The case is polished, but I got another case, that is better, but the previous owner thought it was a good idea to paint it silver... Then I rather use the polished case for now, and have the other case depainted and chromed again. But I have no hurry, because I won't wear this watch very often. But it is a very nice watch...
