Case refinishing at RSC Toronto

I have an appointment with RSC next week to drop off my 16760 for service. I recently had the hands lume stabilized and hope it won’t be flagged for replacement, as that’ll be the end of that story. I have a few days to decide whether to have the watch refinished. I would guess the watch is not an unpolished example, but please correct me if you think otherwise. If it’s already been polished, I figure I might as well get it done again if it’s done properly. My question is: can anyone share their experience with RSC, specifically RSC Toronto, regarding polishing work? Second question: do they ..read more

My grandfather left me his Rolex and I am curious of its history. I took it to a local jeweler and found out the case and serial number. I’m not very computer savvy and looking for assistance. The case number is 8029, serial number 897118. Would appreciate some help to a website to tell me its history and value, wondering if it would be worth my money to clean and restore it. Thanks for anyone who could help me out ..read more

To polish or not to polish

My father gave me his original day/date (given to him by his father) and I’ve not worn it much as it had a brick bracelet which is a bit much for daily wear. I’ve recently changed to a leather strap which I much prefer. I’d asked my watch service guy about polishing ans the dial is a bit dull. He advised against it due to devaluation and also losing some of the gold. However, if I’m just going to wear it and never plan to sell it, are there any other considerations I should think about? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Attached Images IMG_2489.jpeg (109.1 KB ..read more

6263 - bargain or fake

I spotted this auction on the sale room for a 6263 I assumed it was a frankenwatch given the very low estimate on it and the auctioneers mention of the movement being modified. It ultimately sold for £22000 plus hammer. I'm not a Daytona expert but I'd be happy wearing that on my wrist. So my question is was this a bargain or did someone get swept away bidding on a cobbled together watch https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/a...f-b1a900fb9a44 ..read more

Watch service question

Sending my 1997 GMT-Master II Rolex to be serviced at the RSC and received the following quote for replacing the hands and crystal in addition to servicing the movement. I know that I shouldn't replace the hands if I want to keep it all original but is there any harm in replacing the crystal? I did not notice any chips or cracks when I had the watch but don't know if there was something more minuscule that I missed. Thanks in advance! Is wearing a daily driver with a 3035 or 3075 movement a reasonable idea?

I'm thinking about getting a Rolex made in the 1980's and I've focused on the GMT Master 16750 (3075 movement). I plan to get the watch serviced by an RSC after acquiring. After that is done, is a 30XX movement watch still a reasonable daily wear watch? Are they still able to maintain a daily -4/+6 rate? Is there any reason this is a bad idea? My current Rolex watches (three in total) have the 31XX movement, which has been rock solid for me, but I'd like to consolidate my collection and go with one watch from the 1980's for daily wear. But I have reservations about a movement that was last m ..read more

Hi all, Ive been away from the forums for a few years and out of touch with the current state of vintage Rolex, so looking for some advice on a friend's watch. She inherited her Dad's 5508 Rolex last year. He served in the US Navy on a submarine and bought the watch right after Graduation from the Naval Academy around 1958-59. She literally found the watch in his sock drawer with boxes of his military medals after he passed away last year. She recalls that he wore it all the time. She has some photos of him wearing the watch while in uniform, unfortunately they aren't the clearest images of ..read more
