Laparoscopic procedure with high BMI - What was your experience?

Last week I got confirmation that I will be having a laparoscopic cystectomy to drain a 6cm cyst, and a probable salpingo-oopherectomy to remove the my left ovary (due to a 3mm projection scored at O-RADS 4). I didn't expect a decision to go forward with surgery to happen so quickly (thought they'd want to do more imaging), but consented because I didn't want to cause additional delays. The pain over the last 6 months has truly sucked. I also thought I'd have roughly a month to mentally prepare, research and ask more questions, after asking about general scheduling timelines. Those who have had OC, have you ever been told your breath smells like alcohol?? I don’t have diabetes but we suspect OC and I’ve been told my breath smells like alcohol even though I do not drink. It even happened tonight, my husband kissed me and said “wow honey, your breath smells like rubbing alcohol”. Has this happened with anyone else? Just curious if it had something to do with the suspected OC. Thanks submitted by /u/No_Space_219 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello. I’m 21, got diagnosed with 1c stage ovarian cancer in 2023 august, kept my both ovaries and did 4 rounds of BEP. During MRI on late december, everything was ok. No tumors, both ovaries looking perfect, blood markers good. My period was back in 2024 march. I had my blood markers checked every 3 weeks and everything was ok each time. I had MRI this week and radiologist wrote that I have “7x6cm cystic structure with thin septations and slightly uneven thickened outer wall near my right ovary”. I had cancer in my right ovary before chemo. I’m seeing doctor next week. I’m pretty positive th ..read more

My mom recently had a CT scan for a back pain issue and a growth was found on each of her ovaries. One is apparently the size of a walnut and the other an orange. She had stage 4 cervical cancer over 20 years ago and had everything but her ovaries removed. After finding the growths she got a CA-125 test done and her levels were over 50 (normal level is around 36). She has an appointment with an oncologist in early May but the not knowing and having to wait so long is terrible. I was wondering what her odds and chances might look like just based off what we know now, if anyone has any possible ..read more

Hey everyone! I would like your input on what type of content you would like to see in this sub. I have received messages from a few members who would like this sub to be dedicated to only those who have had an Ovarian cancer diagnosis. I have also heard from women who have not yet been diagnosed but would like to post here as well. I have added some poll options below and would appreciate it if you could choose an option. Also, please feel free to add any additional thoughts you may have in the comments section. I'd also like to thank those of you have taken the time to send me such kind mes ..read more

In March I was admitted to the hospital for crazy high blood pressure and severe enteritis. On my CT, they found bilateral abnormal complex adnexal cysts. Of course I have so many symptoms of ovarian cancer, but they are so vague really what woman doesn't? I was sent for an ultrasound and the Dr called and now they want to send me for a MRI. They didn't tell me anything about these cysts except the ultrasound wasn't definitive. Isn't an ultrasound the go to test? My doc said not to worry because cancer is rarely bilateral but why aren't they telling me the characteristics of these cysts? Plea ..read more

My Journey

I’ve been wanting to share my story, but I didn’t want to put it out there right away. It begins back in 2020 at 32 yrs old. In the height of the pandemic I found out I was precancerous for ovarian cancer when I went in for a well woman’s check and told my OBGYN about my swelling abdomen. After lots of imaging, it came back that my ovaries were 16 cm large. I followed up with an oncologist and my left ovary was removed as it looked the worst of the two, and 3/4 of my right, both sent for biopsy. My oncologist said it was a 4% chance I actually have cancer since it’s normal for women to get cy ..read more
