KDE 5 loads wrong keyboard layout
FreeBSD » KDE

Every time I start KDE 5 in FreeBSD 14, the keyboard layout is loaded as US, although I've set FI (=Finnish) as the only keyboard layout to be loaded in System Settings / Input Devices / Keyboard / Layouts. I can only change the layout in Terminal with setxkbmap fi, or making changes to the layout in system settings and applying the changes. In Gnome the keyboard layout loads correctly every time, but in XCFE the layout is US, as well, and I have to manually change it. The keyboard layout loaded OK when I first installed KDE, but stopped working when I made the mistake of running portmaster ..read more

Virtual Keyboard not working on login screen
FreeBSD » KDE
by kriptorix

Not sure if this belongs here but I am looking for a working virtual keyboard for the login (running KDE, SDDM, Xorg on 13.1-RELEASE-p5). The reason is that I managed to get FreeBSD running with a touchscreen and consequently want to operate the system via a virtual keyboard. I thought that qt5-virtualkeyboard would run straight out of the box, however, when I click on the "virtual keyboard" during login, the opening dialog stays blank/black. I also already tried to reinstall it via port without any succes. I already figured out that xvkbd is in the ports and works great so far when being lo ..read more

Is there a way to increase the font size in the main window? I've looked around all the settings and didn't see an option. The font size in the main window is too small for me to read, i would like to increase it if possible. QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct environment variable [SOLVED]
FreeBSD » KDE

Hello Group, I am running FreeBSD 14.0 with the XFCE4 desktop and lightdm. I use KDE's Dolphin file manager because it's the only one I've found that shows me the duration of mp3 files. This is important as I do a lot of radio work, and need to know how long the songs are. Anyhow, I use qt5ct to change the theme of Dolphin to dark, so that it matches the rest of my system. With Linux it was pretty simple: I had to add QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct to /etc/environment. How do I do this with FreeBSD? I'm using the bash shell, so I thought that using the EXPORT command within ~/.bashrc would work, b ..read more

Nano behaving unexpectedly
FreeBSD » KDE

Hello, I have set up FreeBSD 14 with KDE Plasma5 and I mainly use Yakuake with bash (though this is all the same with Konsole and with different shells such as sh, zsh and fish). When using nano to edit files, the behavior is unexpected (to me), and not what I am used to with other systems. I have tried editing the .nanorc file, but nothing has really helped so far. -- Firstly, shift+up/down moves the nano window inside the terminal instead of selecting text. Shift+left/right does nothing at all. Secondly, with "set mouse" in .nanorc, it is possible to scroll, but it is impossible to selec ..read more

KDE Dolphin unable to mount drives after upgrading to FreeBSD 14
FreeBSD » KDE

I recently upgraded my desktop to FreeBSD 14, and at that time KDE Dolphin was no longer able to mount USB drives (haven't tried CDs, etc). This worked perfectly fine before. Years ago, to get it working initially, I followed RichardM's suggestions at https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/kde-mount-dvd-and-thumb-drives.65221/ and it just worked. (Given that hald isn't used anymore, I understand why that might not work now). When I click on a "Removable Device" in Dolphin, I get the following error: "An error occurred while accessing '29.9 GiB Removable Media', the system responded: You are not ..read more
