Late last year I photographed Gabby and her beautiful warmblood gelding, Fling, at their agistment in North Sydney. Healing a broken heart Fling came into Gabby’s life after she was healing a broken heart from the loss of her beloved boy Cooper. She’d been going to try another horse, but fell in love with him just from the photos she saw. She just knew he was the one. It’s not hard to see why – he’s truly one of the most striking horses you could find! Photographing an equine love story Gabby had a fall early into their partnership and broke her pelvis, but felt it only helped their relationsh ..read more

Monique got in touch to celebrate two special men in her life. Firstly, her newly started heart-horse, Valen, and to celebrate her 25 year anniversary with her husband, Joe. We captured these magical moments over two separate sessions at Monique & Joe’s beautiful East Kurrajong property. Valen’s time to shine We started in familiar territory (for me) with a horse and rider session, celebrating Monique’s love for her young warmblood gelding, Valen. In our discovery call, Monique told me how she saw a photograph of Valen as a foal on his breeder, Glenhill Sporthorses‘ facebook page and it wa ..read more

Evie & Noble | Horse and rider photo session | Douglas Park

Evie’s family wanted to give back to her as a recognition of all of her hard work she’s put in to making her equestrian dream come true with her beautiful Clydie cross Kaimanawa, Noble. What better way to celebrate than with an equine photo session? Like so many of us, Evie caught the horse bug via her family, when her granddad sewed the seeds. Evie is a tough cookie and has worked hard to make sure she can have Noble in her life. A big turning point in their relationship came after the terrible bushfires in 2019 threatened Noble’s safety, and as you can imagine, she’s been thoroughly protect ..read more

If you’re looking for an indoor arena to hire in Greater Sydney to help keep your horse in work and escape the rain or the heat, this blog post is for you! One thing I saw a lot in 2022 was people asking around in facebook groups for indoor arenas in Sydney. While I’m hoping we don’t need this list quite as often as we did last year, I’ve gone and made one anyway. Check out the available indoor arenas for hire in the Hawkesbury, Hills & North Sydney and Nepean, listing as much helpful information as I could find! At the end I’ve also listed a couple of venues with undercover round yards fo ..read more

Liz, Hughie & Nuka with family | Central Coast Equine Photo session
Half Steps Photography Blog

Back in August I travelled up to Matcham Valley on the Central Coast to photograph Liz with her clydesdale cross Hughie and palomino quarterhorse gelding Nuka. But the fun didn’t end there – we also photographed the family dogs along with Liz’s son Jackson and her daughter Lily’s pony, Rusty! We started off with the black background session with Rusty, an eleven year old Australian riding pony. This boy is the PERFECT first pony, he’s not even cheeky – every mother’s dream really! On the day we had our session, Lily had just had her first canter with him, which was so exciting! Liz told me th ..read more

Kat with Christo & Buddy | Senior horse photoshoot at Maraylya
Half Steps Photography Blog
by Lexi Stapleton

Earlier this year, Kat booked in an equine photo session to capture some perfect moments with her senior horse Christo, and also her charming pony Buddy. We managed to squeeze both a black background photoshoot and a horse & rider photoshoot in before Kat and her boys moved down to the picturesque South Coast of NSW. Kat and Christo have been through a lot together in their six years – he’s always been there for her. She’d had some concerns about his health, and while he fortunately soldiered through, Kat now has these memories to enjoy forever more. A patient, easy-going, gentle sort, Ch ..read more
