The Tartan Shoot

Having ventured to the most beautiful locations, in search of the perfect backdrop for a Tartan styled shoot; on Thursday I brought the vision to life, featuring Thistle & Cloth’s Stunning dresses, each beautifully hand crafted. The initial vision I had for this shoot was with the Royal Stewart Tartan, on a sparse moorland, featuring a highland pony, with a dramatic atmospheric sky behind; the red popping against the earthy tones of the landscape. Well that Is exactly what we got!! The shot above was actually taken last on the shoot, due to the location we needed to get to in order to ..read more

I think if you speak to any equestrian in the UK, they will confirm that this winter has been tough! I have never know a winter so wet & my fields now represent swamps, despite being on top of a hill. Even as I write this, the rain is pouring, but between the storms, there have been brief moments of quiet & beauty. This year I have had to monitor the forecast more than ever, to ensure that when the opportunity has arisen, I can get out and do what I love – working with lovely people and their horses. So here is a recap of all of the wonderful shoots I have done this winter. The win ..read more

Ophelia

This year, I have been doing a number of creative shoots, featuring clothing from different time periods. This Edwardian shoot theme was inspired by the beautiful painting of Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare’s play – Hamlet. Although written in 1599, the well recognised painting of Ophelia wasn’t produced until 1852 by artist John Everett Millais. Despite the story behind the image being haunting, Millais has captured it with profound beauty. For my interpretation of ophelia, I of course was going to incorporate a horse as the saviour/hero, preventing the alternative deathly outcome, in ..read more

1950’s Equine Photo Shoot

Ever wondered what an Equine Photo Shoot would have looked like in the 1950s? I adore all things vintage & after doing last year’s “Illuminate” shoot, featuring a stunning 1920’s Flapper dress (image shown to the right if you missed the blog about that shoot) I felt very inspired to explore different Fashions through time. The 1950s seemed a great place to start (with a couple of other shoots based on this period planned over the coming months). For this shoot, the outfit was a 1950s interpretation of the “ready to ride” clothing theme. We were so lucky to have access to the most ..read more

My goodness, how are we nearing the end of May already? Earlier this week, I had such a wonderful creative shoot & it included the most complicated outfit design to date! Flowers have always appealed to me on photo shoots, they make the most beautiful backdrop, but an outfit made of flowers… that wasn’t something I had considered until earlier this year. It was January – The weather was foul and strangely enough, I have invented some of the most exiting creative projects on such days, while sitting cosy indoors, rain lashing against the window and (like many equestrians) dreaming of s ..read more

Hello & welcome to my first blog of 2023! Horses “at liberty”. Because this blog is all about stunning portraits, focusing on the horse… but I will let you in to a secret! None of these horses were actually loose! Which is why I wanted to share this blog and sample images with you, as I have had numerous horse owners and breeders who have been desperate to have images like this of their horses, but known that they absolutely couldn’t take their headcollars off in these locations, so instead we let a bit of photoshop do it’s magic! Below, you will see a collection of images taken with h ..read more

I first thought of this shoot concept about a year and a half ago (around the same time as I photographed the image dreamer, with a bed on the top of a mountain in Snowdonia). I could picture the image in my head, but for reasons I couldn’t understand, there was something missing! I won’t plan a Nocturne shoot until I am 100% confident in how I want the final image to look, so a year passed & I continued to think about this image, asking myself what element needed to be altered, what was it I had missed to make this shot exceptional? The answer, as I discovered in the September of this ye ..read more
