Hey guys. I'm pretty confused at this point. I am trying to get my 69 base with 351w and automatic trans running well. Issue I seem to have is when cranking with key, it cranks and cranks but doesn't fire. I jump the solenoid and she fires up. After it's ran for a minute, it will start with key. I put a new solenoid on, but problem still exists ..read more

Hey guys, I installed my Transgo shift kit today, well, had a friend install it, while I was at work And it really does shift alot nicer (No second gear chirp for me anymore =( ) But one thing I noticed is, it doesn't seem to go back into first gear when I am at a stop sign anymore, instead it will stay in the gear it was in, and when I hit the gas it drops into first and really lights the tires up, and I mean really. Now, I don't have the drop down linkage on my carb, but I do have the...

So if a guy was going to "stealth out" a stock, '69 AM-Stereo 8-Track to have solid state, AM/FM internals, a working 8-track, an 1/8" input for his iPod and a big three channel amp (3rd channel for a dash speaker), what size should that dash speaker be to bolt right up in the stock position?
Would the same guy find threaded studs already part of a stock, speakerless dash structure, or did Mercury do something special to prep a single speaker car to hold the speaker?
(hypothetically...

A book has many chapters, and one can argue that the Cougar story already has many chapters. Calling this chapter 2 doesn't seem fitting, as this is more like chapter 4, but whatever. Here is a link to the last few chapters:

If you've ever installed one of these trunk lid trims and have had trouble lining up the attaching clips with the holes on the trunk lid here's a tip that may speed it up and keep you from scratching up the paint.
Remove the trim and clips.
Clean
Tape the trim back on the trunk lid in the correct position.
With a 2 inch probe (wooden dowel) dab some paint on the end and stick it through the trunk lid holes and touch the trim.
Now you have marked all of the hole locations for future use ..read more

Now that I’m retired I figure that it’s time to start to liquidate the hundreds of 1967 + 1968 Cougar an XR-7 parts that I have been collecting over the last 50 years.
If you have any needs, please email me at: “6768Cougars@att.net”; and I’ll see if I can help you out. Also, you can also see some of the parts I’ve started to put-up for sale on eBay under the seller ID: “bigw1231 ..read more

I finally found a set of Black Set belts. I am attempting to insatll the shoulder straps and cannot find the location for the hook that the elastic hangs on. WHen they installed my headliner the actual location was lost.
Can anyone give me two measurements,
(1) From the center of the mounting bolt to the center of the hook.
(2) From the bottom of the windlass to the bottom of the hook.
This would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bernie
