I was recently asked by someone: “Why do you only create artwork about horses?” The obvious answer to this question  would be “well, I love photographing them!” ( which is what I said) but for some reason on that particular day, that simple question had me soul-searching. Whilst deep down, I understand the connection and emotion they provoke within me. Why do I simplify my passion for horses? Clearly some of my followers old and new might not completely know why my work is inspired by horses (both wild and rare) or I wouldn’t have been asked this question. The only way I know how is to be ..read more

It had taken me several weeks to plan my adventure to the remote island of Eriskay, way up in the outer Hebrides. I had decided that it would be a fabulous idea to combine my photography trip with a much needed family break too! So along with my partner, daughter and two dogs, we all just about fitted into the car and began our journey! I had the long but very beautiful drive to Oban, stopping of course at the best services in the World (Tebay) then getting a 5 hour ferry journey to Barra Island itself. The ferry journey to Barra Island was a long bumpy affair which caused me to feel a little ..read more

Welcome to my first official blog post for tales from a wild heart! Through these blog posts I’d love to tell you the the stories behind the photographs and a little more about the subjects. My latest collection is called Wild Hearts and is about all our equine native horses and ponies, with a focus on endangered breeds. The Wild Hearts collection has caused me and my camera to go far and wide across the UK, from the sweeping fells in Cumbria, the hills of the Hebrides, the vast landscapes of Exmoor and even further beyond causing me to travel thousands of miles on my journey. The reason behin ..read more

About five years ago I began incorporating bees’ wax mixed with tree sap into my artwork. I initially began experimenting with the many techniques you can use to lay wax down onto fine art photography prints, different surfaces and papers. I love the way you can build textures upon textures, enhance colour and areas of important to guide the viewer around my artwork but most of all I love the ethereal feel the wax gives my artwork. I get lost in my wax “darkroom” as I heat, fuse, paint and scrape revealing my encapsulated artwork.   Many people are intrigued when they see my original p ..read more

As we move closer to summer, I thought I would dive a little deeper into my horse fine art photography commissions. These days most of my horse photography is centred around creating photography prints and wall art from my latest projects for art collectors and businesses. Last year, I decided to limit the number of personal commissions I take on each year from clients in order to be able to have the time to provide the best experience for each and everyone of my lovely clients. There’s a lot of time dedicated so each session can be individually tailored to my clients needs. Lots of pla ..read more

Having personal artwork in your home is always lovely to own. As a fine art photographer, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the clients I work with moved to tears when they see their beautiful photography of their beloved animals. The commissions are not just to create pleasing working environments or beautiful hotel rooms. For the last few years, I have been photographing rare breeds across the country capturing both semi-wild and domesticated horses on film. When my project “Wild Hearts” is complete, it will hopefully help raise the profile of native breeds (some of which are facing possible extinction.) Each month, I will be releasing an extra special print which will be available for four weeks only. This print is unmounted, printed on beautiful Hahnemuhle archival printing papers, signed and numbered by myself. Print of the Month is limited to 25 prints only on a first come first served basis. My first print ..read more

Wild Hearts is a personal project which focuses on Britain’s native breed horses and ponies.  For the last few years, I have been photographing these rare breeds across the country, capturing both semi-wild and domesticated horses and ponies on film. I hope that “Wild Hearts” will raise the profile of native breeds, some of which are facing possible extinction. With a passionate message of conservation at its heart, the project aims to encourage people to support these vulnerable breeds, either by protecting them in their natural environment or by buying a registered pony – a step that c ..read more
