Proposed government legislation would make alcohol even more expensive in Ireland. Could this actually be good news for the wine category? In Ireland, you’re never far from a good drink and a good philosophical debate, as any visitor to a Dublin pub can attest. From a public health standpoint, there is certainly a case for reform. Despite having one of the highest rates of alcohol tax in Europe ..read more

The Irish wine market weathered the storms of a brutal global recession, but will its luck run out under the pressures of minimum pricing, Brexit, and a weaker pound? As with other markets, Ireland’s economically significant hospitality and tourism industries have been decimated by lockdown restrictions and lack of air travel over the past year, and the effects of this crisis will be felt in bars, pubs and restaurants throughout the nation for ..read more

Though it has a relatively small adult population, imposes high taxes on alcohol, and has traditionally consumed beer and whisky, Ireland has been a good place to sell wine in recent years, particularly if you are a brand owner from the New World. Why is this? Logistically, Ireland works well. The Greater Dublin Area is home to 40% of the country’s population, the country’s main seaport and the origin of all its key major roads, connecting to the other major urban centres.
