I was on another podcast again. This will make it seven total guest spots across four different shows. In this one I talk about the industry and where I think it is going and how fly tying is not dying but on the contrary, it’s growing. Jeff and I touch on some topics on where it’s growing, fishing the jetty and stillwaters, where are the people consuming content, and much more. Give this one a listen or listen to the other six podcasts I’m one to learn about so much more.    ..read more

I talk with Christian at the Fly Fishing Insider Podcast all about searun cutthroat. We get into what I have been up to over the last couple years and how to target and fish for SRCs here in Oregon and the Pacific coast. The show was recorded back in November so it was top of mind at the time but it doesn’t mean you can’t start prepping for bluebacks now for when they are ready to go in the Fall. I embeded the youtube link right here but if you prefer Spotify or Apple podcast listen there as well.    ..read more

NW Expo – Albany, OR

It’s show season right now. The two show I will attend will be The Fly Fishing Show in Bellevue, WA (which has come and gone by now) and the NW Expo in Albany, OR on March 8th and 9th. The NW Expo is my Super Bowl. I prepare for this every year and look forward to it for months. To me it is the kick off to the fishing season and really the indicator that it’s time to ramp up my fishing prep and get as many flies tied in the off season for the main fishing season here in Oregon. If you have never been it is worth taking the time to go and attend at least one day. What to Expect This is a fly ty ..read more

I’m going to be tying at the Fly fishing Show in Bellevue, WA. This is my first time at this show and the first out of state show I’ve done in a while. I  love tying shows and this will be a fun one.   I’m going to be tying flies I use on the jetties here on the West Coast. Things like jetty worms, clousers, and gamechangers. I’ll have a few flies for sale so if you’ve wanted to try you hand at jetty fly fishing, but can’t get the flies at your local fly shop hit me up. I’ll also be at the IF4 showing that night so if you miss me at the show catch me there. I hope I can connect with ..read more

Chironomids and Buzzers
Oregon Fly Tying Blog
by Garrett Lesko

In North America, in stillwater fisheries, the small but mighty chironomid is the foundation to a healthy lake and big fish. They range in sizes and colors but are found in nearly all lakes or ponds no matter the latitude. As someone who obsesses over fly tying and fishing I have done hours of research on what colors and sizes of chironomids I should have in my boxes for the areas in which I fish. So I wanted to share with you, in one place, the go to chironomids you should have in your boxes when you venture out on the water.    Chromie   This has to be one of if not the single ..read more

I was back on the Wet Fly Swing podcast. I looked it up and the last time I was on the show it was August of 2021 so it’s been a while. On that show which can be found here, I talked about a lot of fly tying stuff in general but mostly focused on tying euro nymphs. This podcast is totally different, I talk about fly fishing on the jetties of the Oregon coast for rockfish. We get really into it so if you don’t want to read the blog posts I’ve written about the topic or you want even more information then take a listen. This show comes on the heels of another show I did with the Fly fishing 97&n ..read more

I had a great conversation with Mark Hopley on the Fly Fishing 97 podcast. We talked about a ton of stuff including thread, hooks, my least favorite phrase in fly tying, mentors, fly tying influences, and so much more. It was a blast talking with Mark and we even talked about doing another show in the future dedicated to thread. Let Mark or myself know if that is something you’re interested in. You can listen here or go to his SoundCloud or any of your favorited podcast aggregators. Oregon Fly Tying Blog

I’ve been going around Oregon speaking at fly fishing clubs. Where I have been covering topics like searun cutthroat, euro nymphing, fly fishing off the jetty, and much more. Recently while speaking at the Santiam Flycasters in Salem, Oregon they recorded my talk about stillwater flies. I don’t have much in the way of youtube at the moment but I thought I would share this with the readers of the blog. It is about an hour long and I cover a lot of topics in that time, I would recommend to listen to this like a podcast. So feel free to comment down below or shoot me an email or send us a message ..read more

Preparing Your Tying Schedule
Oregon Fly Tying Blog

I love to tie flies. Clearly. I’ve been tying flies for 14+ years and almost every day of those 14+ years. I might be able to count on one hand how many flies I have bought to fish with and if I use my other hand I can add the flies that I’ve bought as a template to tie off of. Being a young millennial I think I grew up in the golden years of free fly tying instructional content with it being quality and accessible. I started with the books with black and white drawings from the library and 140p quality Youtube videos and now the type of fly tying videos available now are almost cinematic in t ..read more
