It was really great to meet up on Sunday as a club to remember our dear kite flying friend Martin Corrie who sadly died too young from Motor neurone disease. It was a glorious sunny warm day and it was lovely to meet up again with Anna, Amy and Richard and Martin’s 3 grandchildren. Unfortunately the wind Gods weren’t with us and it was a scramble to find some light wind kites that would fly in the very light easterly wind. Between us we managed to get some kites in the air to remember our dear friend Martin There are a few photos from the day in our photo gallery ..read more

We were invited on Saturday to fly at the opening of the Sunspot Business Centre at Jaywick, Essex . It was a great event with a live band and choir, climbing wall, children’s’ rides, craft stalls and a lovely cafe which provided us with lovely teas and coffees. The weather was brilliant and at last we had a reasonable southerly wind for most of the day so that we could put on a nice kite display for the visitors. There are some photos from the day on our photo gallery ..read more

It was great to be back this weekend at the Naze supporting the Essex Wildlife Trust The Naze Nature Discovery Centre. We had intended to do our usual kite display and our kite workshop. The kite workshop did really well with over 200 young people having a great time decorating their own kites and then flying them. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas with our kite display. We managed to get some of our show kites in the air on Saturday morning, however strong winds and the rain put pay to that in the afternoon. On the Sunday the rain had thankfully gone and we had a nice sunny day ..read more

It was so lovely to meet up with everyone at our annual fly to remember our dear friend Martin Corrie who passed away from Motor Neurone disease in 2014. We were joined by his daughter Anna, son-in-law Richard and Martin’s three grand children. It was initially a little overcast with little wind in the morning but things did pick up about lunch time when the wind increased and the sun came out. There was enough wind for Jonny to fly his wonderful new 40m Octopus which caused quite stir . We were soon joined by Gareth, Mike and Barbara from the Kent Flyers who had made the long journey up from ..read more

For the first time since covid lockdown Pete our events organiser was contacted by the manager of the Essex Wildlife Centre at Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex to enquire if we could do a two day kite event over the weekend of 30th and 31stof July, although this clashed with the Portsmouth Kite Festival previous event at the Naze have been very popular we are always keen to help promote local events so we as a club said yes and the planning began, we would be doing a kite display, kite workshop and sweet drops both days. Saturday 30th was hot and sunny with a SSW wind in the teens ideal ..read more

For the first time since lockdown the First Light Festival was being held in Lowestoft and the East Anglian Kite Flyers were approached to put on a kite display as part of the event was being called First Kite for which lots of small kites had been sent to local schools and clubs to fly at the event. The First Light Festival is held over a weekend on south beach Lowestoft to celebrate the summer solstice, Lowestoft is the most easterly point of the UK so sees the rising sun first and the festival runs nonstop (usually) from midday Saturday to midday Sunday, it is a huge event with music, a pa ..read more

It was so lovely yesterday to have our first club flying meet since October 2019. It was so good to meet up with everyone. Many thanks to Layer Marney Tower for letting us come and use their field. We could have done with a bit more wind, there was very little in the morning but by lunchtime it had picked up a bit and we did at least manage to get a few kites in the air to create a reasonable display. Sadly the wind didn’t last for long and by 3.00pm it had dropped completely. Luckily we managed to get the kites away dry before the rain came. Here’s looking forward to the next one at the end o ..read more

Hi everyone, Due to the governments restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus we have had to cancel the club flying meet on Sunday 14th June 2020. You will also notice on our website events page that nearly all of our events for this year have been cancelled and we are still awaiting a decision on the EWT weekend at the Naze in July.  As soon as the government restrictions on movement and meetings of more than 6 people are relaxed we shall try and organise some club flying meets hopefully later in the summer.  Until then please stay safe. Best wishes. Jonathan ..read more

We had an absolutely cracking fly at Frinton-on-sea yesterday. It was probably one of the best days we have had flying there for a long time. We had one of those perfect 12-14mph north easterly winds which came from the sea so it was quite stable and it wasn’t too gusty. We had loads of compliments from the general public as to how enjoyable our display was. Here are a few photos ..read more
