Hi, I am on the look out for a new Laptop. I currently have a Dell G5 5500 laptop, which has Intel i7 10750H CPU, 16gb Ram, 1TB SSD and Geforce 2070 Max-Q graphics. When I got the laptop it was mainly for work and occasional gaming (nothing serious). I have found the whole time I have had it, to be soo loud, even when literally doing nothing. Its set to balanced mode in the alienware app. I am not sure if precision laptops have a similar way to set a performance profile? if they do, does... Are the Precision 7780 fans loud ..read more

I've inherited a Latitude 7430 with W10 that has Bitlocker installed. I have no documentation at all, so no recovery passwords. I want to format and re-install Windows with no Bitlocker. I've gone to BIOS and made the USB with the install the first boot option, and that works. But when following the prompts to install, when I am asked what drive to format the option area is empty. I have tried to fix my new/refurbed XPS 9560, didnt work, need help. I started using it properly yesterday, and it switches off abruptly (as if someone would have pulled the plug from a desktop) randomly when on battery power. Battery indicator at that moment can show anything from 60 to 98%. It refuses to start again while on battery, but if I plug the electricity cable in then i can start it. My Dell Inspiron N5040 was not powering on. I thought it was because of dirt inside. Therefore, I opened up the laptop, cleaned the fan, replaced the thermal paste (after cleaning off the old paste), cleaned the motherboard with IP alcohol and then put together the laptop again. When I inserted the power adaptor and switched on the AC power, I heard a beeping sound. It was a two-beep sound. I knew that meant no RAM. Therefore, I inserted both the RAM ( 4GB each). I did an update to Windows 11 and it immediately messed up my keyboard. My keyboard responds like its being interrupted and is unusable. I bought an inexpensive USB keyboard, and it works great. Also, the screen keyboard works great. The other major issue is it only runs if it's plugged in, it does not charge the batteries while it's plugged in though. Hi, I know others have posted about this serious issue but I want to tell my story. IMO the fan runs far too slowly and there seems to be no way to adjust this. I had temps up between 85 and 100C before I was forced to disable 'Turbo Boost' in the Bios. Now it runs between 60 & 80C but performance is seriously reduced. I spoke at great length to DELL tech and Adv Resolutions but was told 100C is normal and that I should re-enable Turbo Boost to regain lost performance. I don't believe... For some reason, my computer runs slow and won't turn on the fans when I am using my Latitude D620 laptop unplugged. When it is not plugged in, it throttles down to 1ghz with 40 percent CPU utilization and everything runs slower. But the moment I plug in the charger, it jumps back up to 2.19Ghz and goes back up to 100 percent CPU utilization. Is there a reason why this is happening?
