Net banking and digitization have made banking transactions easier. As a result, online fraud and cybercrime have also increased due to the increasing popularity of online banking.
Scammers have adopted a new technique to defraud SBI account holders. The State Bank of India (SBI) has issued an alert to its 44 crore customers about this fraud. QR codes are commonly used in this fraud.
The bank warned its customers not to scan any QR codes they get from anyone, even by mistake.

Fraudsters choose their targets meticulously and then use girls to engage men on WhatsApp. The conversation begins with calls and gradually progresses to texting and video chatting. The video chats are then recorded and morphed into adult clips to blackmail the men. In their WhatsApp DP (display picture), the accused pose as police officers. Even creating suicide episodes to add weight to their narrative, they falsely claim the girls in the video committed suicide.

Fraudsters are increasingly targeting WhatsApp, the instant messaging service. There is a new scam on WhatsApp that uses the name Kaun Banega Crorepati to defraud people, according to a report. Some scammers are said to be based in foreign countries and lure Indians by announcing a lottery worth Rs 25 lakh. The message informs users that they won Rs 25 lakh in a lucky draw.

Ahmedabad’s Cyber Crime Cell arrested four people on Monday for allegedly duping several people by promising them higher returns on investment in ‘Tron’ cryptocurrency. Tron, like Bitcoin, is a cryptocurrency that is legal in India.

Bhopal’s cyber-crime branch said Monday that it had arrested the absconding head of a Shivpuri-based racket that bought SIM cards using forged ID documents and then sold them on to online fraudsters based in Delhi. Police say the accused bought SIM cards for Rs 50 each using forged Aadhar cards and sold them for Rs 500 each. Officers report that the accused have admitted to providing more than 1,500 SIM cards using forged IDs in the past four months. Theni District (Rural) Police arrested a 23-year-old man on April 1 for posting sexually explicit videos of a woman on social media. A 23-year-old woman from Coimbatore rural filed a complaint against P. Gopinathan (23), a native of Andipatti in the Theni district.
According to the Cyber Crime police station, the complainant and the accused studied at the same college in Coimbatore, and the two were in a relationship.

Pune: There has been an increase in the number of instantaneous mortgage apps on the Android Play Store, which were created for the specific purpose of financial fraud.
Pune cyber cell officials said the number of complaints related to mortgage scams increased significantly in 2021 and 2022, with 928 and 319 complaints, respectively.
