Rogue Adventure

In the blink of an eye, we’ve reached the end of 2021. It’s interesting to have a read over the wrap up from the 2020 racing season where we were looking ahead to our plans for this year. Team Rogue entered 2021 with an air of optimism after having the bulk of 2020 written off due to pandemic cancellations. And while it certainly hasn’t been smooth sailing, on the whole it has been another fantastic year of competition with some great results for the team. March The year kicked off for team Rogue with a short and furious sprint event at the Max Adventure Race at Enoggera Dam. I was joined by T ..read more

A1 Preview: Explore Gippsland 2022
Rogue Adventure

As the eyes of the adventure racing world are turned towards New Zealand for the tenth anniversary of GODZone, Australia is quietly gearing up to kick off the racing season with the second edition of Explore Gippsland this weekend.  As the first race in the national adventure racing series, Adventure 1 has again done what it does best – attracting all the top teams in the country in a head-to-head competition.  Indeed, I suspect that Explore Gippsland could be the most competitive race in the country this year.  Virtually all of the nation’s top teams are present with just the n ..read more

An Insight Into World Obstacle and Adventure 1
Rogue Adventure

With the recent announcement that World Obstacle (the working name of FISO – the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles) sanctions Adventure 1 as the official world cup for the sport of adventure racing, I’ve fielded a number of questions about what this all means for AR.  Adventure racing has had a successful world series of expedition races for 20 years now – “why are obstacle course racers trying to take over AR and claim it as their own”. For background, I direct the Rogue Raid adventure race, which is a member race of the Adventure 1 series in Australia and which will fall ..read more

2020 Racing Wrap (and 2021 Sneak Peek)
Rogue Adventure

On the hunt for these There were times this year I didn’t think I would even really have an opportunity to write a yearly race wrap up.  Looking back to the start of 2020, we had lofty goals of a big race calendar planned with some fantastic events lined up.  I recall being pretty excited because it was a super neat calendar – I could focus on setting and running the Rogue Raid in early May before throwing myself into a dedicated racing and training block with 3 of the 5 other Adventure1 races, sprinkle in some of the QLD rogaines, add a touch of Hells Bells and serve it all up at ..read more

XPD Rivers of Gold

In an attempt to keep things a little bit more low-key with my own racing and just enjoy the process itself, I hadn’t intended to write a race report from XPD. But I’ve just got to accept that I’m an AR tragic and with an amazing set of photographs from event photographers Margarete and Murilo that pretty much tell the story of the event itself, an XPD race report was almost inevitable. Pre-race competency checks passed with flying colours. The last big expedition race I’d competed in was the Fiordlands edition of GODZone back in March, 2018. To be honest, there was enough race experiences p ..read more

Exploring Gippsland The Hard Way
Rogue Adventure

This is a long report. For those with short attention spans, check out the race video: Two weeks out from the Explore Gippsland start line, it was looking very sketchy on whether team Rogue were even going to be able to field a full team at the race. With Brisbane sent into a three day Covid lockdown and Victoria declaring us a red zone it was looking like our plans at another tilt at the Adventure 1 national series rankings were going to be derailed before they even began.  But as we transitioned to orange zone status, a route to the race opened up like a path beaten down by Chris Delan ..read more

A look back at 2019

Teams scramble over granite on day 1 of the Raid 100 Looking back over the 2019 racing season, it’s been a real mixed bag of results for myself and team Rogue.  I know we are only just now reaching the end of October, but given that I’ve effectively run my last race for the year, I thought it would be nice to get in early with my end of year race wrap and kick up the feet for a bit.  It’s certainly been an odd year with a lot less racing than I would typically do. The focus has been on the Mountain Designs Adventure 1 series with a few satellite adventure races as well.  Indee ..read more

Giraween Rogaine Report
Rogue Adventure

It’s not often that I get down to writing a race report for a foot rogaine, the last ones being the Diaper Creek Rogaine and 24 Hour Rogaine champs way back in 2014. A big part of the reason for this is that’s been almost 2.5 years since I’ve done a pure bush foot rogaine! Between Covid, organising races and competing in the Adventure 1 national series and other AR events over the last few years, it’s been a while between outings.  But the recent 6 hour foot rogaine hosted out of Girraween National Park was particularly noteworthy and I thought it worth capturing a few thoughts about the ..read more

Some classic Mojo Raid terrain. With 2019 done and dusted and a fantastic year of adventure racing results under the belt, the Rogue team have set their calendar with all eyes on a bumper year of racing in 2020. Australian adventure racers are certainly spoiled for choice this year, with 11 adventure races that are 24 hours or longer spread across the eastern seaboard. Team Rogue will focus on racing the Mountain Designs Adventure 1 series with the goal of seeing if we can go one better than our second place in the national results from the past two years. The team will race 4 of the 5 A1 ra ..read more

Back-to-Back Wins at Wildside
Rogue Adventure
by Liam St Pierre

As one of only a couple of teams to race every event in the Mountain Designs Adventure1 series this year, it had already been a big season for team Rogue.  However, with how the points system was shaping up, there was still plenty to race for at the Wildside 36 hour race: while the Alpine Avengers seemingly had the series all sewn up, we were a real chance to moving up one place in the national standings and onto the podium with team Thunderbolt and Thought Sports absent after the recent Eco Challenge.  Not to mention we had a title to defend after winning the 50 hour edition in 2018 ..read more
