Docker Home Assistant Tailscale…

I’ve got a reasonably stable Home Assistant core running on docker. I had previously seen some pinned posts here about setting up Tailscale to enable remote access. Is there anyone using Home Assistant app on iOS with a remote access (thinking VPN or Tailscale)? Does it work? submitted by /u/Hemi_Go_Round [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does volume location matter for VPN Server ?

I have DS1522+ running DSM 7.1.9 (I think)... I have my files across 3 Volumes under 2 Pools (Raid 5 HDD / Basic SSD) and want to access them from outside my home network I came across a video about using OpenVPN by installing VPN Server from the Package Center however during installing it asked me which volume to install it in ! I want to access all my files from outside my home network, will install location matter ? Also, will installing in the SSD volume add any performance benefit (my HDD pool is already 99% full ?) or is it same across disk types ? submitted by /u/IbrBaz [visit reddi ..read more

Once Upon a NAS

Once upon a digital twilight, in the quiet hum of a suburban home office, John, an avid tech enthusiast, sat hunched over his keyboard. His prized possession—a Synology NAS—stood stoically on the shelf, its blinking lights like distant stars in a miniature galaxy. John had always been cautious. He'd set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for his NAS, believing it would keep his data safe. But one fateful evening, curiosity got the better of him. He wondered, “What if I could access my files remotely, even when I'm away from home?"* And so, with a few clicks, he enabled remote access. The NAS ..read more

I spent the better part of two days trying to figure out how to get this to work. There's no one page that had the right answer, I had to take info from several different pages. So I'm gonna share what worked for me in case it helps the next person. NAS: DS224+ Z-Wave USB: ZOOZ ZST39 Z-Wave Long Range USB Stick First, fix the missing USB drivers from DSM 7.0+ using this guide: https://github.com/robertklep/dsm7-usb-serial-drivers. Make sure you follow the section about docker up until the part where it tells you how to the configure docker container itself There's so many guides on setting u ..read more

Can these hard drives be used for a NAS

I am told that there are special hard drives for NAS which can handle running 24/7 and many reads and writes which sets it apart from the normal PC hard drives or portable ones. I ordered some drives that looked like this: Ordered Drives But what I got is this: Received Drives These don't look the same and neither does it have the "NAS" tag on it. My question is that is it just a new refreshed version of the same drive and are these still good to be used in my NAS (920+)? I am not sure if I am over thinking this. submitted by /u/brown_coder [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is the ABB Windows agent "per user"? So if user A installs it, then logs out and user B logs in ... is the machine still being backed up? submitted by /u/hughmercury [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

New to NAS, why did my setup add these 2 folders but they hold identical files inside? How can I remove the redundancy and/or just create my file folders on the root drive on instead? Thanks

I have a UniFi UDM Pro and the syslogs are a pain to access. I am trying to sort out some VPN handshake issues. I want to look into a sys log server. I see synology has the log center and can receive logs from UniFi but i also watched a video on grey log and that seemed to have some nice features. I am newer to the synology and UniFi world so any suggestions are appreciated. submitted by /u/Waterzilla [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How to install BitComet to your Synology Nas

tl;dr; This post will mainly cover how to install BitComet to your Synology Nas. Context: With Nas in home, it is always counter intuitive to download file on your PC and transfer to your Nas. Because your nas is always connected to your router with a cable! Why not directly download files via Nas? But one bottle neck for me to download files from Pikpak is that there is always speed limit out there even with the Synology download station. After exploring around the community, finally BitComet save my life! I don't have to bear 3.6 MB/s but realize full potential 50MB/s! However there is no c ..read more

After abnormal shutdown (accidental unplug) & subsequent data scrubbing, NAS performance/access is very poor (DS1522+)

Hi all, The title of the post pretty much sums up my problem, but I'll elaborate here a little further. I accidentally knocked out the rear plug from my NAS (DS1522+). After I plugged it back in, it wanted to do a data scrub because of the abnormal shutdown. I let it do that, although I noticed the system was much more unresponsive than usual during a data scrub (usually, if one is running, I don't even notice it, performance wise). The scrub took about 2.5 days but the whole system is still slow. And by slow I mean the UI is very slow to load, if it does. Saving or altering basic settings ei ..read more
