I'm a newbie to NAS, but I've been using Windows PCs my whole life. I've built a Linux computer from the mobo up. I'm ignorant to NAS, but not computer illiterate. I know how file systems and folder hierarchies work. But I'm just not getting the file system philosophy with Synology. I just bought a DS923+ with 12x12x16x16 TB setup with SHR as one partition. Hi New to this bussines. I plan to migrate my physical blade server, sitting an EU data center for few years now, to migrate it to DS923+. I started planning this few years ago with a RPI, so I already purchased 12Tb*2 WD USB External HDD. I plan to run this with Plex, and Torrents as a beginning. Further on, I plan to make it another backup archive, music, docs etc. Maybe even running on it Sonarr& Radarr later on? First question- Does the choise of Ds923+ will be suffecifient? No... My Synology DS415+ NAS don’t turn on, it may be out of order. There is no way to access the files by just connecting the disks to the computer. I can't try replacing the device itself - there is no similar device available. How to extract data from hard disks after the NAS device broke down, from an inoperable disk array? I have my Synology configured to idle the HDDs after x minutes of innactivity, but this never happens. Anytime I check they are spinning, and they get reasonably warm, which is a loss of lifespan and electricity, plus unnecessary noise.
