This year we decided to mark the World Environment Day by organizing a cleanup along the lagoon in Elmas, a small town near Cagliari. We were invited to collaborate by the local organization Fierogatto which volunteers take care of the stray cats living in the area. We were pleased to see several local organizations and schools join the forces with us, among which the local scout team, Pro Loco Elmas, fishermen and the residents of the town that also hosts the biggest Sardinian airport. In two hours we collected around half a tonne of waste – including plastic, glass and aluminium, car tyres ..read more

The pandemic made it both complicated and risky to organise clean-up. However, taking all the necessary safety measures and limiting the clean-ups to the local areas, we managed to organise several beach cleanup events in 2021, the second year of the covid emergency. One of such events was the Terra Mala clean-up. Terra Mala is one of the locations along the shore in the Quartu Sant’Elena municipality, which boasts 26 kilometres of the Sardinian coast. On the hot morning of May 6, 2021 around 30 volunteers cleaned part of this coast, collecting 20 bags of waste. Apart from plastic waste, other ..read more

On 19 September 2021 Clean Coast Sardinia, together with a local voluntary association OIKOS, organised a beach clean-up for the ICC 2021 season. It’s the fourth ICC edition for us. When we first participated in 2018, we were a newly-formed association and we managed to attract rather small group of volunteers. Since then we have organised tens of events and some of our clean-ups gathered more than 200 people! This time 62 volunteers, including 19 children and teens, cleaned Poetto beach in Quartu Sant’Elena for the ICC event. We filled 30 bags with all types of waste – mainly plastic. The old ..read more

The covid emergency strict regulations made it impossible for us to organise clean-ups outside our municipality. Still, it didn’t prevent us from organising small, local events with up to twenty volunteers. Taking all the necessary safety measures, wearing masks, gloves and keeping social distance, we managed to run several beach clean-up events along the coast of Quartu Sant’Elena and Cagliari. On two ocasions, on the 14 and 28 March, a small group of volunteers cleaned parts of the Poetto beach in Quartu Sant’Elena. The result – let the images speak ..read more

With the Crime Scene Investigation lesson and a beach clean-up that followed, Clean Coast Sardinia has launched its new project – raising awareness about the marine pollution among children who spend their holidays at summer camps in Sardinia. It was an amazing experience as the thirty children we met at Start Summer Camp in Torregrande ( province of Oristano, the west coast of Sardinia) all proved to be very sensitive to the topic of marine life protection, waste collection and fighting plastic pollution. That was our first such meeting and we hope we will be able to continue this project, co ..read more
