Despite the windy, wet conditions in the past while we are managing to play on both the Wednesdays and Thursdays.  The refurbished pistes are settling well and firming up nicely.  Our thanks to Yvonne who has taken on the Thursday Group organisation and keeps them abreast of changes etc. and brings along the playing gear to both the Wednesdays and Thursdays.  She also plays on Mondays in Alden Park.  Recent Wednesdays photos; 9th Feb 2022 16th Feb 2022: 23rd Feb 2022: Our thoughts are with players and former players who have health issues themselves, or withi ..read more

Eleven made it to St. Anne's on Wednesday for the Boules.  We had some bunting up to mark yesterday's French National Holiday.  There is still the strange spectre of Covid-19 over proceedings but we all enjoyed our games and the noticeably larger numbers in the park on weekdays meant we had many spectators.  We won't be playing competition until September probably, providing there isn't another 'lockdown' caused by another 'Wave'. It was great to have Brogan and Judy back playing again. Brogan gave us a rendition of 'La Marseillaise' and Happy Birthday for the Alden Park ..read more

Petanque Play is continuing at St. Anne's with activity on Wednesday, Thursday and now Saturday mornings. Wednesday morning boules is well attended despite the holiday season.  Thanks Eileen for the photos.  One of the benefits of the blog is that it is a running record of activity at the pistes for over ten years and very valuable when consulting the Parks Officers in relation to enhancements.  A picture paints a thousand words so here's 8000 words without typers cramp! Thursday morning boules is moving along steadily with a mix of new players coming to gr ..read more

Wednesday Boules: Wednesday Boules Group is working well.  The reduced numbers contribute to all players playing with 3 boules each.  Also, the players arriving, on spec, hoping to play are generally being accommodated but they're aware of the restrictions.  We are awaiting the upgrade though Piste 1 and 2 have settled a little after the temporary. [Thanks to Dave Hughes for the photos  from June 30th] Twelve players played on Wednesday 7th July in dull but pleasant playing conditions.  With Olive's Room reopened for outdoor snacking we thank Yvonne for her provi ..read more

Hi all. Following our meeting today in St. Anne's where Tony outlined the developments with regard to the Pistes and looked for suggestions from the group regarding play going forward, I'm doing this post and sending a WhatsApp message to the St. Anne's Boules Group. I'm outlining the same questions here for easier reading but please reply through the WhatsApp or failing that to my email which I'll supply on the WhatsApp message  if you find that easier. Answer in this format: e.g.     A - Yes  or No             ..read more

Under the Government Level 5 Plan for living for the rest of October and all November we will not be meeting up for group boules in St. Anne's Park.   If you wish to practice yourself or with one other that may be okay.  The following are a couple of photos from our play last Wednesday 21st Oct 2020 before the announcement of Level 5 restrictions. The pistes are becoming worse by the day and while challenging they are almost not fit for purpose. I'll re-send the letter to D.C.C. to try to elicit a response for the long delayed upgrade. Bye for now ..read more

Despite the Coronavirus threat we are continuing to play on the Wednesdays with reduced but steady numbers.  Most are wearing masks and all are distancing as much as possible.  Great to be out in the air and not entirely confined.  The pistes have not been maintained this year as Tom, who annually weeded the edges, has not been in a position to do so yet this year.  Hopefully later in the year.   I propose to e-mail the Parks Dept., in the absence of retired Mick Harford what is the status of the proposed redevelopment of the Boules Area.  I know tha ..read more
