Declan Hannon said that the injured Peter Casey is ‘first and foremost’ in the thoughts of Limerick after their win over Tipperary. “Obviously I don’t know the severity of the injury but it didn’t look great,” Hannon told The Sunday Game, as he accepted the man-of-the-match award. “A game of hurling is a game of hurling but he’s obviously first and foremost in our thoughts. “Peter was flying it obviously. Hopefully it’s not too bad, we’ll have to wait and see.” John Kiely said afterwards that Casey’s injury is ‘significant.’ “Apart from winning or losing or anything like that, you know, and it ..read more

We’re kicking right into gear now. GAA action will take centre stage almost every weekend from here until the end of July and this one coming is no different, with eight senior championship games to be shown live. Saturday has something of a modest offering with the Ulster football semi-final between Down and Armagh probably the pick of the bunch. GAAGO will be showing that one and they will also broadcast the Leinster senior hurling championship clash between Wexford and Antrim, live from Belfast. Saturday’s less-than-packed schedule leads to a blockbuster Sunday but some supporters have been ..read more

Donal Óg Cusack says only four Cork players were ‘positives’ in loss to Waterford

Jackie Tyrrell says that ‘serious questions’ have to be asked of Cork after their disappointing loss to Waterford on Sunday. Cork were favourites heading into the game having impressed in patches throughout the League but they didn’t hurl to their potential, and were eventually beaten by three points. Indiscipline was a feature of Cork’s display with Ciaran Joyce’s black card to go with Damien Cahalane’s red reducing them to thirteen men at one stage of the game. Four of Cork’s six starting forwards were taken off in the game, as a sign of their struggles in attack, while, in defence, question ..read more

“Clare have had a tendency to blame everybody from RTÉ to referees” – Donal Óg doesn’t spare Clare

Donal Óg Cusack says Clare have no-one to blame but themselves for their ‘last quarter collapse’ against Limerick in the first round of the Munster senior hurling championship. The National League champions had the look of winners when they led Limerick by nine points with just 20 minutes to go but they were defied by a late surge from the All-Ireland champions, who went onto win the game by three points. Three last quarter goals re-ignited John Kiely’s side but the game-changing scores weren’t without their controversy. The Clare players contested two of the goals on the basis that, on both o ..read more

Full-time: Donegal 4-11 Derry 0-16 Goals from Oisin Gallen, Jamie Brennan and Daire O Baoill (two) ended Derry’s dreams of a third Ulster Championship in a row as the fly-goalie tactic was destroyed in Celtic Park. Playing as a roving goalkeeper, as he has done all year, Derry’s Odhran Lynch was caught out for three of Donegal’s four goals. Donegal’s second goal, scored by Daire Ó Baoill, really showed up the fly-goalkeeping tactic. Daire Ó Baoill repeats the trick and Odhran Lynch won't want to watch this back… Watch on @rte2 and @rteplayer https://t.co/ZfZ9mA9XTY Live blog https://t.co/A ..read more

The Clifford brothers may be following Down’s Charlie Smyth to the NFL, if they’re not careful! The fear regarding David Clifford, whenever he burst onto the wider GAA scene as a star of the Kerry minors, was that an Aussie Rules side might come to lure him Down Under. Judging by a latest skills challenge video, NFL scouts may yet pop him on their radar. We recently had the likes of established GAA stars, Charlie Smyth (Down), Mark Jackson (Wicklow) and Rory Beggan (Monaghan) heading over to America to take part in the NFL Combine and Pro Day, as part of the league’s International Player Pathw ..read more

The Championship is here. Yes, it’s been here for the last fortnight but with gigantic clashes in the Munster hurling and the Ulster football championships – the two diamonds in the provincial rough – there’s more of a buzz about this weekend. Saturday is headlined by the meeting of Derry and Donegal in Celtic Park at 6.15. It’s the clash of the Allianz Division One Champions (Derry) with the Division Two Champions (Donegal) as, after all these years, Jim McGuinness and Mickey Harte go head-to-head once again. The game will be broadcast live on both RTÉ and BBC, with all eyes inevitably peeled ..read more

The GAAJOE football team of the weekend

This is the official TOTW so don’t @ us. Whether you like it or not, the championship is back, and if you weren’t up to the pace, then you were eliminated, and it’s as simple as that. The likes of Monaghan and Westmeath are some of the big hitters to fall at the very first hurdle, but a lot of that was to do with brilliant performances from the opposition as opposed to their own poor showings. So without further ado, here is the GAAJOE football team of the weekend: 1. Rory Beggan Barely off the plane from America and having only kicked an oval shaped ball for the last few months, you would’ve ..read more
