Tiling into a window recess

Hello tilers! I've done quite a lot of DIY tiling, usually to a reasonable standard, but I want to do my new kitchen to a really good standard. The only tricky part is where the wall tiles go into the window recess so I need some edge trim which will go from the top of the wall tiles, 90 degrees into the recess, and also vertically down the edge... Not sure how I can get a good corner between the 3 pieces of trim, does anyone have any recommendations ..read more

Removing tiles/retiling under UPVC door

I have removed nearly all of the old tiles from my kitchen but there are a few shards clinging to the bottom of the external door (uPVC). As far as I can tell the tiles go all the way under the threshold to where the outer uPVC frame meets the threshold. If I cut all the grouting off from where the tiles meet the threshold in order to remove the tiles will that compromise any of the structure of the door? Also, when I put the new tiles in should I do the same and slide the tiles under the... Read more ..read more

Hi. I’ve got the old tiles off but there are a lot of holes where the adhesive has pulled it off. I’m not tiling but would like it ready for a tiler when I get one. So. Do I skim the wall, can it be just tiled over or do I cut out the damaged area and put new plasterboard up. See photos. Area is only 130cm x 60cm Thanks ..read more

Wet room enclosure, on tiled floor

I have a small wetroom with curtains on a rail and would like to enclose the shower area until I can afford a total redesign of the room. Is it possible to install a sliding corner entry shower enclosure door cubicle direct onto the tiled floor, without using a shower tray? The one I’m considering is ‘ELEGANT 800 x 700 mm Sliding Corner Entry Shower Enclosure Door Cubicle’ from https://www.elegantshowers.co.uk/el...rner-entry-shower-enclosure-door-cubicle.html... My plasterer has ruined my new quarry floor tiles with SBR

My plasterer has ruined my new quarry floor tiles and the grout with SBR and waterproof render. Before plastering and rendering he covered the quarry floor in old 'protective' sheeting. However the SBR and waterproof render he used has soaked through the sheeting and dried underneath and onto my quarry floor tiles and all the grout joints in between. I've tried scrubbing but I cannot get it off. I told the plasterer and he flippantly told me to use flash. Can anyone advise on what I... Read more ..read more

Easiest type of grout to maintain

So far, I've tried two different types of epoxy grout (Mapie and Kerakoll) both of which I was informed are considerably better than cement based grout. Firstly, they don't hold on to dirt and grime as much, and are far easy to clean when you needed. My experience of these both are not as good and they are also quite difficult to apply in an almost flush way to the face of the tiles (which are square edged). I've spoken to various tilers and they all hate working with epoxy grout as it's... Read more ..read more

Abacus Elements: Adhesive on wall or backing board ?

As per question. Just about to put up some of these boards on a masonry wall. I'm applying a full bed of S1 tile adhesive across the whole wall (or boards) along with mechanical fixings as the wall is flat and level (no dot and dab). On some manufacturers boards they say put the adhesive on the wall, others on the boards. How have others installed them ..read more

Cracked Tile In Shower

Hi, just noticed this crack in one of the tiles in my shower. Not sure if it would have been there since installation 6 years ago or if these things can just happen? It's in an awkward place to replace and I've put a bit of clear silicone over it. Is there anything else you would recommend instead to cover the crack or will silicone do? Thanks ..read more

Tiling onto Jackoboard over P5 chipboard

Hi there, We're half way through a bathroom renovation, and are getting ready to tile the floor. We've got P5 Caberdek boards down, and we're planning to overlay these with 6mm Jackoboards (tile backer boards with EPS foam core), fitted as per manufacturer instructions (tile adhesive, boards go down, adhesive sets, seal edges, screw boards down). I'm slightly concerned about the P5 chipboards being too moisture resistant for the adhesive to bond, but I guess this is why Jacko want us to... Read more ..read more
