Does anyone know of a US online retailer for the Karl Dahm tile/grout wash systems? We have one we bought years ago and need some of the consumable materials for it. Sponges, etc. Can't remember where we bought it but I can't find any US retailers currently ..read more

How to remove water droplet "outlines" from glazed ceramic?
John Bridge Tile Forum

15 months ago, I installed a glazed ceramic shower tile (in a well-sealed bathroom, shower/tub combo, w/a nice bath fan). I don’t have hard water or use harsh soaps/cleaners. Vinegar gets off any soap/misc streaks easily, but... If I look closely at the tile, I see a bunch of “water droplet outlines” (as though the droplets on the wall left after you shower just dried right there). I don't always wipe the walls down after showering and will try to be more consistent on that. But at this point, is there anything I can do to remove those “outlines”? They won’t show up in a photo ..read more

Pre-seal??

Hi folks. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. I’m installing a ceramic floor tile that’s unglazed and pretty rough/textured (studio field tile from Arto). I’m worried that the grout cleanup will be difficult because of the texture (it feels like unsmoothed concrete or like coarse sandpaper). I called the company and they recommended pre-sealing with Laticrete Bulletproof sealer, which I’ve never used. I’m concerned it might impair the grout bond. I don’t think I’d have time to paint it on very carefully tile by tile; I’d need to seal the ungrouted floor in a few hours or less, which I’m sur ..read more

I am going to do the 3x6 subway tile but with the small pieces around the niche I think it won’t look right with the grout lines. I was thinking to do some type of border around it. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks Michael Attached Images   ..read more

Hello, all! New to the forum, but have visited many times looking for advice. Am in need of help. Had contractor convert tub to shower about 7 years ago. Now, the grout from around our shower drain grate has broken off and in at least one place you can see the orange Kerdi membrane near the corner. The drain and missing grout areas have a bad odor. Looking for the proper way to repair / replace. Appreciate any and all ideas or suggestions! Many thanks! Attached Images        ..read more

Help! My contractor put an OSB subfloor in my new addition...a 12 x 16 sunroom. My intention is to put saltio tile on floor (loose -not glued). The subfloor has endured weeks of snow with a tarp on it. Now that they are working again (been 7 months to get this far!) The seams in the OSB have raised and when i put a tile over the seam and stood on it, it cracked.....in every seam i tried! I worry that they will say set the tile in thin set...no big deal. Is there a better option. I wanted loose tile tillmi was sure saltio title works for me aesthetically. Thanks, Patty ..read more

Ditra Heat Over 4x6 T/G Plank Subfloor

Hello Guys. Arthur here, new to the forums but longtime reader  I am finally renovating my own bathroom, 1950s home with a hard as nails 2x6 tongue and groove solid fir subfloor. The bathroom is 53” wide and 80” long. I added a 4x6 beam to the right wall along with two more support piers on concrete footings. Additionally, I will beef up the subfloor with 2x6 joists 16 OC. The deflection will be nearly nonexistent. One of my non negotiables is I want a flush floor to my laminate. I also would like to install Ditra heat BUT, I only have 9/16” to work with. After Ditra I have 5/16” left ..read more

Tile over tile shower floor with Kerdi

This site helped me plan and complete the install of our master bathroom. I appreciate all the help. One thing we didn't know was how sharp the rectified porcelain tiles would be. Here is a link to the build thread: Build thread I did a decent job on the floor, only a few places with a small amount of lippage but it hurts to slide your hand or feet over it. Even where there is no lippage the tile is sharp and uncomfortable. I know I can't pull up the original tile since I installed on Kerdi. My only option is to tile over it. So that is what I am considering. I can raise the drain up a bit be ..read more

Shower valve seal (kerdi, Hydro ban etc) *Warning

I finished a shower build and had two valves installed. One for the shower and one for the diverter. If you do this, DO NOT USE one of the standard valve seals from kerdi or hydro ban for the diverter valve, they are too large for the diverter escutcheon plates. Just trying to save someone the same trouble I am now faced with by trying to figure out a way to cover the hole. Since I have a 5" round hole in my square tile, there is no easy solution. If I come up with something that looks presentable, I will share...if it looks bad, I'll deny I did the work and blame it on a contractor. jk :ban ..read more
