It’s the start of a new day on a TSC Canoe Trip. How does a day in the life of a TSC canoe trip start? After breakfast you pack up your campsite while your counsellors check the planned route for the day ahead. Once you are all packed up, it’s into the canoes. You start paddling together towards the next beautiful marvel of nature you will see that day. An animal a landscape, it’s always a surprise. The canoe moves quickly through the water, you and your cabin get into a rhythm of gliding through the glassy waters of the lake you are on. It is an experience like no other, calm, away from ..read more

Camp Ahmek for boys opened in 1921, and Camp Wapomeo for girls opened in 1924. The Taylor Statten Camps’ journey started more than 100 years ago. We have seen thousands of children often from multiple generations of the same family pass through our two summer camps. They have many stories to tell and fond memories that they cherish. They have learnt essential life skills and have had the opportunity to forge bonds and make friendships that in many cases last a lifetime. Many kilometers of lake and river systems in Canada and the US have been paddled through by the campers of Camp Ahmek and Cam ..read more

We held our first TSC New Parents Information Session on February 10 2022. It was a resounding success and a very positive and happy event. This first session was productive and informative and the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. One parent of two upcoming campers enjoyed the session and discussion to such an extent that he extended his children’s camp sessions by 2 weeks as soon as the session ended.  There was a real sense of people being happy to be back to some s ..read more

What would a day on canoe trip be like? Well, it might go a little like this… The sun rises, the birds begin to chirp and you and your cabin mates wake up feeling well rested and ready to take on another day in the Canadian back-country. After eating a warm breakfast made on the fire, you and your cabin mates pack up the campsite while your counsellors look at the route planned ahead for the day. Once you are all packed up and the campsite looks as it did when you arrived, everyone gets into the canoes and the paddling begins. Another blissful morning in the serene wilderness. Looking Back on Canoe Trip Leo de Ruiter Photo by: Jacque Labatt – 50 Day 2016 – Staff: Leo de Ruiter & Dylan Randle With registration open, special trip applications coming in, and all the thanksgiving posts taking over social media, I’ve been reminiscing on canoe trip quite a bit. So, when I was asked if I wanted to write something for the camp blog, I felt like this was good timing to speak on behalf of my experience with canoe trip and the Taylor Statten Camps. Although I’ve had some trouble putting my finger on what it is specifically, there really is something magical about being out ..read more
