Happy to announce a further major improvement for the X-WORLD series for X-Plane 12. This year, Microsoft added estimated heights to the global buildings footprints, for Northern America, Australia and Europe (as June 2023), maybe more to come in future. In total there are now 1,200 millions footprints and 174 millions estimated heights available.
Thanks to user @ueid who programmed the scripts processing and integrating the estimated heights, we not only can use the estimated heights for the footprints in layer 5-footprints, there are even used for OSM buildings which have no height informati ..read more

X-EUROPE 5.3
X-EUROPE was updated to v5.3, available as full download or update file from 5.2/5.2.1 to 5.3. Main features are in layer 4-scenery: I’ve corrected the preprocessing which lead in v5.2 to missing height tags and thus smaller objects and buildings and new: complex buildings (building:part in OSM) are now generated.
This version will be the blueprint for next upcoming scenery packages, starting X-AFRICA and then X-AMERICA

The download was updated to 5.3, which covers new VFR objects in layer 1-vfr.

200 GiB of data were processed over the last 4 weeks, in pre-, main- and post-processing, a stressful time for the computer and me, it worked day and night and generated a total of 112,969 tiles. Many, many buildings (almost a billion in total) were added from Microsoft Building Footprints (MSBF) AFTER matching with OSM, about one third OSM, two thirds MSBF:
510,265,762
buildings from OSM
907,043,878
buildings from MSBF
1,417,309,640
total buildings

Laminar Research recently posted development news for X-Plane 12 and announced the next milestone, the early access release of X-Plane 12.
We are part of the X-Plane developers workspace and thanks to the access, all of the packages (X-EUROPE, X-AMERICA, X-AFRICA, X-ASIA, X-AUSTRALIA-OCEANIA, X-ANTARCTICA) are already adapted for XP12 and actually in the final generation, including the new vegetation and with (besides the current OSM data) much more (exactly 788,235,841) Microsoft global building footprints to complete the landscapes all over the world.
Here’s an overview what’s coming next to ..read more

Microsoft published on github computer generated building footprints for various countries: USA, Canada, Australia and parts of South America and Africa. Thanks to user @ueid who did the script, we are proud that we now included these footprints into the sceneries to complete and fill poor OSM data.
An impressive number of 213,442,146 buildings are newly added to the continental sceneries.
See the difference for e.g. Oklahoma City:

A new additional package has been added: X-EUROPE Details, adding very small objects to your scenery, it’s especially for low altitude flyers, helicopter pilots, car drivers. Normal flyers don’t need it as most of the additional objects can’t be seen at >1,000 ft AGL. So this package is not included in X-EUROPE, it’s a separate download.
X-EUROPE 5.6 Update
Even the X-EUROPE download has been updated to v5.6, now showing noise barriers, colleges, transformer towers and 81 new vfr objects.
X-EUROPE v5.6 ia available as update 5.5.1 to 5.6 (1.8 GB) or as full download (7.8 GB ..read more

We just started the New Year 2021, and I bring some good news: 4 updates and 2 new continents.
First, X-Europe, X-America, X-Africa and X-Australia was updated, a world region as a backup was implemented to prevent errors outside the package, see (small) update files on FAQ.
Next, the last two continents are ready to download:
X-ANTARCTICA (well, this is not really the most interesting continent) and
X-ASIA which is available as beta version, i.e. layers 3 – 7 are final, only layer 1-vfr is missing
