Is there a Chef resource to check for version of an installed RPM on RedHat?
Stack Overflow » Redhat

I need to find the version of an RPM that is installed so that I can then, via the Chef recipe, apply appropriate user permissions and amendments to specific sub folders and files within the installed software. The software we have, supplied from an external vendor, has a sub-folder with the version of the software included. For example: v22.2.0.11 When a new version of the software is released by the vendor, we update the local Yum repo to add the new, suitable versioned RPM, and the Chef recipe we have will then use the standard Chef "package" resource to update the installed software. I am trying to add rhel-8-for-x86_64-appstream-beta-rpms to my repros so I can pull a beta rpm down of Xvfb on my Linux RH 8.9. See https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/xorg-x11-server-Xvfb/1.20.11-22.el8/x86_64/fd431d51/package. The problem is, it’s not in the available list of repros for my subscription (subscription-manager list –available) but subscriptions page says "Red Hat Beta Access" is Active, so it should be an option. This is how I tried to add rhel-8-for-x86_64-appstream-beta-rpms: subscription-manager attach --pool=$(subscription-manager list --all --available --matches ..read more

I'm trying to install the Classic Microsoft QDK on a RedHat system. I use anaconda to create an environment, as it was recommended on the doc. This procedure works fine on Ubuntu. But on a RedHat machine, i got the error message : Unable to load shared library 'Microsoft.Quantum.Simulator.Runtime' or one of its dependencies. In order to help diagnose loading problems, consider setting the LD_DEBUG environment variable: libMicrosoft.Quantum.Simulator.Runtime: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory What is the problem here ..read more

I am using a self hosted instance of gitlab and scheduling a job on my runner to pull code from a remote github repo. the job completes and, from all indications, has no issues. however when i look at the repo from the frontend there are no changes. BUT in my RH server i can see the pulled/updated changes from the remote repo have been brought in. the job output gives me this as my pwd /home/gitlab-runner/builds/U9qyH6x1t/0/{username}/repo-github/.git/ but nothing in the ui shows that it's updated. when i navigate there on the backend i can see all the changes just fine. why is the gitlab ui ..read more

How to compare RedHat and Debian Kernels [closed]
Stack Overflow » Redhat

I have read that RedHat and Debian patch the Kernel.org kernel, apparently they make different changes, which is easy enough to believe, however, I wish to see the difference. Meaning - I basically want to diff it out and get an understanding about exactly what is so different: RedHat (RHEL) vs Linux.org Debian vs Linux.org RedHat (RHEL) vs Debian In theory, since RHEL is opensource, I should be able to download RHEL kernel source from some git repo. Call me stupid, but so far I can only find CentOS and Fedora (which should be relatively close to RHEL, but I want RHEL). I did find the Debian ..read more
