In November, Balenciaga released a disgusting and tone-deaf, if not dangerous, holiday ad campaign depicting children holding teddy bears in bondage harnesses and costumes, with alcohol and bondage gear around them. Many quickly condemned the campaign using the hashtag #cancelBalenciaga on social media and accused the fashion house’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, of condoning the sexualization of children and glamorizing child abuse. Balenciaga’s flagship store in London was graffitied with the word “paedophilia” on one of the windows. Another store in Beverly Hills was tagged with the st ..read more

The statistics are startling. 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys are sexually abused before their eighteenth birthday and yet 30% of abuse is never reported. Childhood sexual abuse transcends every education level, socioeconomic status, and cultural and religious background. The good news? Our country recently took a giant step forward in allowing victims of child sexual abuse to seek justice no matter how much time has passed.
Until recently, the ability for victims and survivors of childhood sexual abuse across the country to sue in civil court was limited by a statute of limitations. A statute of ..read more

Last month, Demi Lovato released her latest album, which included a song that quickly received the attention of fans and the media and spurred a powerful TikTok movement.
The lyrics in one of her latest releases, “29,” have been associated with her relationship with That 70’s Show, Wilmer Valderrama, when he was 29, and she was 17. In the song, Lovato, now 29, sings, “…finally, 29, 17 would never cross my mind. I thought it was a teenage dream, a fantasy, but it was yours; it wasn’t mine.” While Lavato has not explicitly named Valderrama, she describes the reckoning she experienced after turni ..read more

Years after their crimes were first reported, both Ghislaine Maxwell and R. Kelly has each been sentenced to prison, sending a powerful message to perpetrators of abuse: what’s done in darkness WILL be brought to light because the voices of survivors will be heard. In both of these well-publicized cases, the rich and powerful subjected their victims to sickening abuse and attempted to hide behind their veil of fortune and fame. For a long time, it worked. But survivors and their families refused to remain silent. These verdicts have shown the world that true strength lies in the power of victi ..read more

Last week during National Internet Safety Month, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill sponsored by Lauren’s Kids founder and CEO Lauren Book into law to help combat the proliferation of digital sex crimes. Senate Bill 1798: Sexually Related Offenses gives law enforcement and prosecutors tools they need to go after online predators.
“When personal and private images are stolen, bought, and sold online, we can now hold bad actors accountable,” says Book. “By recognizing the crime of ‘cyber trafficking’ and acknowledging the existence of deepfake images, we have given victims of these crim ..read more
