Olympian Matt Welsh OAM joined Kidsafe Australia yesterday to launch our sixth annual ‘Safe Barriers Save Lives’ backyard pool safety campaign at Collingwood’s former home, the iconic Victoria Park. With the nation in the midst of football finals fever, former AFL player and coach Rodney Eade features in the campaign video to remind the public that when it comes to backyard pool safety, ‘the best offence is a good defence’. Update from Safetech Hardware regarding the voluntary recall of the striker component of their pool lockable gate latches. Safetech is pleased to announce the new design of the striker has been tested and approved for production. All home-owners who have previously registered for a replacement striker will have received their new striker now.  Just a reminder from Safetech to throw away the striker that you remove from the gate after you have fitted the replacement provided. An estimated 2,600 Australians receive hospital treatment for injuries caused by toppling furniture and televisions each year, equating to approximately 50 people per week.
