Acute angle closure is when your eye’s drainage system suddenly closes. It can be painful, and it can lead to a rapid rise in eye pressure. It can damage parts of your eye, including the cornea, lens, retina and optic nerve. This damage can lead to glaucoma (called angle closure glaucoma) and sight loss. A recent study suggests that some common attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medications might increase the risk of glaucoma. This finding is important for the millions of people who use medications like atomoxetine, methylphenidate, and amphetamines. ADHD is often treated with these drugs because they help manage symptoms effectively.
