In case you haven’t bumped into their site or social media yet, Golfhōm is the first-to-market worldwide vacation rental platform built for golfers. They recently beta-launched and have a pretty decent selection of homes and condos in Florida, Arizona and Hawaii already. CEO and co-founder Scott Prestin came up with the idea for the golfer-centric vacation rental platform while planning a friend’s bachelor party golf-excursion. It wasn’t easy to pinpoint golf course-vicinity vacation rentals, so he created a new, golf-searchable platform and is adding tons of golf bells, whistles and gear disc ..read more

Here’s how….. Select Teams Use a random method to divide into teams of 3 and 2. CLICK HERE for ideas. On the front nine the team of 2 gets to use a phantom player whose handicap is the same as the lowest player handicap from the team of 3. Scores for the phantom player follow the hole handicaps.  (e.g. If it is a stroke hole the phantom player scores a bogey.) On the back nine the player on the team of 3 with the lowest 9 hole net score moves to the team of 2 forming a new competition for the back nine. Wager Determine a bet for either: a) The front nine and the back nine Team score, or ..read more

Here’s a list that you and your golf buddies can play on your next golf trip to add some fun and competition to your rounds: 1.  Skins:Each hole is worth a certain amount of money or points. The player with the lowest score on each hole wins the “skin” for that hole.  You can include carry-over value if no one wins a skin on a given hole. 2.  Best Ball:Create teams and then each player plays their own ball, and the team takes the lowest score on each hole as the team score. 3. Match Play:Organize all your participants into daily 9-hole match play competitions.  Award prizes ..read more

Golf after 70

When I turned 70, I could hardly believe it.  It sounds so old!  My dad died at 59 and it is hard to accept that I’ve lived so much longer than him. Full disclosure, I am not dealing with aging very well.  Having my physical and mental capabilities in decline is no fun.  I find myself fighting it all the way.  Sometimes I feel like I am just giving in and giving up. I find that I mention my age to others quite frequently, like somehow that will compensate for my perceived deficiencies. I seemed to believe that I was on the threshold of infirmity and soon to be confined ..read more

Justin was recently interviewed on the Golf Blog where he talked about his favorite betting games during practice rounds. He say’s his friends often play Close Out, which is an 18-hole match worth a set amount in a Match Play format.  You can play teams or individual. If the match ends before the 18th hole, then the closeout bet goes into effect in which a new match on the remaining holes starts for half of the original bet. His second go-to game is Hammer!  This is a wild betting game where players can double the bet at any time during the round.  Read a full explanation HERE ..read more

I found these games referenced in the book Golf Games from “Golf Trip Junkie” Bisque This is a two person Match Play game with a twist.  Use your stroke differential wherever you want instead of the designated handicap holes.  It’s really helpful when you have a hole that you know to be your nemesis. Simply declare you are using your strokes on any hole before teeing off. Three Little Pigs This is a great game to play if you are plagued by a few blow-up holes every round.  When the match is over and a cold beer in hand, each player can throw out 3 holes and compare their total s ..read more

Running late and need a quick and easy side game for your foursome.   Here’s seven great ideas: First, decide if you are using Net or Gross scoring.  I always prefer net, unless the difference in the groups handicaps is 3 or less. 1. NASSAUThis ever popular game simply pays the winner of three deferent segments: Lowest score on the Front nine, Back nine, and Total 18. Play individual or teams. 2. BLIND SQUIRRELBefore teeing off, everyone throws and agreed amount of money into a pot. At the end of the round, six holes are chosen randomly, and the player with the lowest score for ..read more
