Grizzly Bear Reintroduction Comments Sought

It would seem that the geniuses behind the “save everything but humans green movement” are back at it again and wanting to transplant Grizzlies into what could (almost) already be described as a predator pit and certainly a large risk for human interactions (read: death of humans in contact with grizzlies) Sadly, I just learned about this myself and there are only a few days left to act. Whether you are for or against grizzly bear reintroduction (a species not even close to extinction), now is your time to comment. Click here to submit your comments today ..read more

This year marks our twentieth season here in Idaho and we are celebrating with 20 percent off on our Idaho spring bear hunts! We love what we do and love sharing the woods with hunters from all over and hope to continue for another 20 plus years of guiding bear hunters. Can you even imagine saving 40 percent on a bear hunt to celebrate 40 years when that happens? Ha ha We truly love spring bear season because after driving tracked machines in a sea of white all winter chasing wolves and mountain lions, the woods finally begin to come to life with signs of remerging plant life, early wildflower ..read more

We genuinely hope that as you gather around with family and friends during this Holiday season, that you will have time to reflect on many or all of your past public land excursions while possibly dreaming and planning towards your next outdoor adventure on public land. Avoid the December 1 Black Friday Idaho Nonresident Tag Sale: Book with an Idaho Outfitter

If you have hunted Idaho in recent years or are intending to this year, you probably know that Idaho’s nonresident deer and elk tags go on sale December 1. This year it just happens to fall on a Friday. We have heard from hunters and some Idaho Fish and Game personnel that it can be quite the “Black Friday” adventure trying to get in line (online or in person) to get your chance at an Idaho nonresident elk or deer tag. This year, why don’t you simply avoid all that? Sleep in, cuddle your wife a little longer, have a relaxing breakfast with your kids, start that workout program, read a good boo ..read more

Ode to the Good Ones

Sally was found dead with her head in the feeder on March 24, 2023. Jack had to be put down a week and a day later. He had been having trouble getting up for a while but with his sister Sally gone, he apparently lost his will to stand. When George bought Wild Idaho Outfitters in 2005, included in the purchase was livestock (horses and mules). Part of this livestock was a pair of Percheron mules named Jack and Sally. They were supposedly around the age of 20 at that time. If Jack and Sally had been horses, retirement would have probably been happening back then, but being that they were mules ..read more

Have You Got Your Bear Bait Ready for the Idaho 2023 Bear Hunting Seasons?

Pretty pink, pretty blue, purple, orange, yellow, tan, chocolate, etc. does it really matter what the name is for bears to like it? The answer is obviously a resounding NO! If it is full of sugar and by default calories, bears are gonna love it and you will have success with this or almost anything edible as bear bait. The main questions in my mind are A) can I get enough of it in a consistent supply, B) can I even afford to feed it to bears and C) how do I keep from producing world record sized squirrels on my Granola, Trail mix, Honey Roasted Nut formula I am currently using? We believe we h ..read more

As the sun set on a crisp evening in our upper camp overlooking the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness on November 18, the realization hit that our 2022 Idaho elk, deer and bear season had just come to an end. This past month has flown by and as we inch up on the end of 2022, we can’t help but look back at an amazing year with complete gratitude for the friends and adventures we got to experience and look forward to many more in the future. We are always grateful to see the many friends we have made over the past 18 years guiding in Idaho returning to hunt with us and just as grateful ..read more

Congratulations to Brandon, from Michigan, for taking 2 bears on a 5-day bear hunt with Wild Idaho Outfitters. Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day is here again, signaling the unofficial start of summer. There’s much more to it however, than picnics and beaches. Memorial Day is an official Federal Holiday in honor of military personnel who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We shouldn’t forget that. Even if you don’t know anyone personally who has given their life for our freedom, you could still visit a national cemetery, attend a parade, or just sit down and reflect on our great country and what it took in lives to make it great. God bless America, Joe Cavanaugh ..read more

Handguns for Bear Country

I’ve been carrying handguns on outdoor adventures since I was a teenager and consider them essential tools of the trade. Handguns are easy to carry, so you have them within reach at all times, and they handle well inside small tents compared to long guns. A great deal of my outdoor activities in North America have taken place in country where black bear are common, and I have happened upon bear countless times where a gun on my hip provided great comfort. The handguns discussed here are specifically for personal protection against black bear—not to purposely hunt bear with. There has always b ..read more
