The tournament was held yesterday, and we had great weather. The match was well run and everything went like clockwork. They have a good crew running these matches. They made everyone feel safe, welcome, and comfortable. Even served BBQ sandwich's that really hit the spot after a day at the benches. The Tournament winner was Gary Hitte. As everyone knows Gary is a great shooter and works hard to keep the matches at Fairchance going. How he shoots so well and works so hard at the matches is impressive. We had a light turnout for our monthly IR50/50 match, graduations & vacations waylaying some regulars. 6 shooters showed up to challenge the tricky conditions, mostly out of the SW 3-5 mph with gusts of 10-12. There was certainly a shootable condition if you were patient enough, not one of my finer qualities! Another VERY windy day at McKeesport Sportsmen's Association. It may have been the windiest day I've ever seen for a match. Never thought anyone would shoot a 250. FYI, Sloughhouse Benchrest Shooters will be holding a Registered Double 3-Card IR50/50 Unlimited match on Saturday June 17th. Range gates open at 7:00 AM, go directly to Range 11 (BR Range), Bench draw starts at 7:00, we hope to start shooting as close to 8:00 as possible. SPEC Rifles There has been a lot of talk about what a Spec rifle is and when is a Spec rifle no longer is a Spec rifle, etc. etc. What a Spec rifle is or isn't can be defined in a number of ways. But as for Calfee Spec rifles they were first called that by Jim Pepper. What exactly what he had in mind when he labelled them as that I'm not sure, but I think he was saying he was bidding on a rifle built by Bill Calfee to Bill's own specifications.
