I have been a spray tan artist for over a decade now and I swear every client that comes in for their first spray tan will ask this question. Can I sit down after this? This question has always made me laugh, because I think about what if the answer was no. Imagine that for a minute, you would have to stand up until your first shower LOL.  Okay, I know you just want the answer, and that answer is YES! You can sit down after a spray tan or even a self tan. The only way you can mess up a fake tan after the application and before your first shower is by sweating or by getting water on yourse ..read more

I first want to say, I feel weird making a blog post about being 40+ and fake tanning LOL. However, it is a topic that I have found important because the reality is our skin changes as we age. I may be 30 right now, but I will be going through this as well in the future. I have found while spray tanning clients that there is certain techniques you need to use when self tanning or spray tanning when you are older and I wanted to share that with you. Things to know: Bend creases: What this means is bend the areas on your body that have wrinkles BEFORE applying any fake tanner. If you don't the ..read more

Can you still get a sunburn or tan with a spray tan or self tan on?

This is a very common question, after you get a sunless tan can you still get sunburn and/or tan? The answer is, YES!!! A spray tan/self tan does NOT act as SPF, you will still need to protect your skin when you go in the sun.  It is best to use a sunblock that is alcohol free and more on the organic side to make sure you don't take your fake tan off. Never use an oil sunblock to protect your skin with a fake tan on, it will take it off.  Sunblock's I like: Sunbum Coola Badgers Thinkbaby Supergoop Bare Republic  All of the brands above have a sunscreen that is fine to apply on ..read more

One of the most common questions I get asked being a spray tan artist is, “What is the difference between rapid and standard solution?”. First of all, you may have heard rapid or express, they are the same thing. I just prefer to call it rapid, but you will see it called express by other spray tanners or other self tanners as well. There is a huge difference between rapid and standard solution, understanding that difference is going to give you the best fake tan possible. Rapid/Express Solution You are in control of how dark your tan gets, it goes by how long you keep the product on your bo ..read more

This is such a good question, and it makes sense as to why it is one of the most popular questions women have when it comes to self tanning or even spray tanning. Can you self tan or spray tan with hairy legs? The answer is yes! I know it seems like the hair may get in the way, but it doesn’t. This is also why I only tell people to remove unwanted hair before any fake tan application. Even for men, only remove unwanted hair. You do not need to start shaving your entire body to have a good sunless tan application. However, there are some hair removal rules you need to know. Shaving If you are ..read more

One of the most common questions I have gotten asked throughout my professional spray tan career is, “Can I self tan/spray tan while I am pregnant?”. The answer is yes, but always consult with your doctor first. I say this because I am not a doctor, I know how spray tanning and self tanning works and have used both during my pregnancy, however it is always best to consult with your doctor first.  (Me pregnant with my son, Braxton, at my baby shower with a self tan on) While I was pregnant, fake tans were a life saver for me. Some women carry pregnancy so well, I was not one of those wome ..read more

If you are a self tan lover, and use it weekly (like me), you will need to know how to remove it. If you don't remove old self tanner, your new tan application will look patchy and uneven. However, you are in luck with the Sunless Rae self tanner, it fades gradually and will just be gone after 5-7 days. If you prefer another self tanner, you will need to know how to remove old self tanner. To remove self tanner from your body: Go in the jacuzzi Take a bath and soak for 30 minutes with organic oils, then exfoliate and rub with a towel. This will break down the DHA, what makes you tan, and will ..read more
