Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is an Utah state park in southwestern Utah, located between Mount Carmel Junction and Kanab, south and west of U.S. Highway 89 in Kane County. The park features uniquely pink-hued sand dunes located beside red sandstone cliffs.  The dunes are formed from the erosion of pink-colored Navajo Sandstone surrounding the park. High winds passing through the notch between the Moquith and Moccasin Mountains pick up loose sand particles and then drop them onto the dunes as a result of the Venturi effect. The dunes are estimated to be between 10,000 and 15,000 y ..read more

The Virgin River has two main forks: the North and the East. The North Fork is more famous and accessible, as it carves “The Narrows” and runs through Zion’s main canyon. The East Fork carves another canyon beginning near Mount Carmel on Hwy 89 and traveling through rugged backcountry to meet the North Fork near Rockville. The “trailhead” for Poverty Wash Road is located roughly 2.8 miles east of the Zion National Park border (turnoff GPS 37.24233, -112.81344). Follow this road in a bit and you will find dispersed camping and areas to park a trailer. The road is an old cattle trail that heads ..read more

Hog Canyon Trail System can be accessed from the east and west. Most people come in from the west side because the trailhead is right off of Highway 89 just a few miles north of Kanab. The Hog Canyon Trail System consists of a network of about 30 miles of trails that range from easy sand to some light rock crawling with some steep climbs. Most of the trails in this area are sand. Don’t take your minivan! While you can spend a day exploring all these trails, you can also venture further which is exactly what we did on this day. Tri-State ATV Club Poker Run – Hurricane, Utah

By Jon Crowley One of the best ways to meet other off-roaders and get out and explore in your OHV is to find a club. After moving to Hurricane, Utah, I joined a the Tri-State ATV Club Hurricane Facebook Group. One day while scrolling through Facebook, I saw that they were holding a Poker Run in Warner Valley.  I had nothing in particular to do that day, so I joined the club online. Then I hoped in my Can-Am Maverick R and  made my way to checkpoint 1 that morning. If you’ve never done an off-road Poker Run before, it is pretty simple.  You can buy hand(s) at the start, then mak ..read more

Polaris RZR XP Rock Crawling Review
UTV Guide
by Jon Crowley

We added 33-inch High Lifter Chicane LT tires and took the 2024 Polaris RZR XP rock crawling on Double Sammy. We tossed the keys to Polaris racer Michael Lee who has lots of time behind the wheel of the original RZR XP1000 in the rocks and also here at Sand Hollow (primarily in a Pro R 2 and 4 seat). The 2024 Polaris RZR XP is a complete ground up redesign of the XP1000 and pretty much everything Polaris touched was made better. While the new RXR XP is primarily targeted to trail users, we’d have no problem running it in the rocks alongside more traditional trail use. 33-inch High Lifter Chic ..read more

Ride Spot: North Rim of the Grand Canyon

By Jon Crowley The Grand Canyon is magnificent, but in my opinion part of what makes a place special is experiencing it without hoards of people that unload off a bus and spoil the views with their social media selfies. My first trip to Toroweap Overlook in 2008 To me, Toroweap on the north rim of the Grand Canyon has been that go to spot. The views are spectacular, but over the last decade, it has become quite popular as well. It will never be like the south rim, but you do need a permit now (limiting the amount of people per day). If you haven’t gone to Toroweap, put it on your to-do list ..read more

By Jon Crowley I got my hands on a 2024 Polaris RZR XP demo unit so that I could do a review. The new RZR XP was completely redesigned and upgraded from the original RZR XP1000. Some of the highlights: New aggressive style with integrated full doors Newly designed, reinforced driveline Better line of sight for driver and passenger Stronger half shafts, prop shaft, and bearings Improved acceleration thanks to an all-new ProStar 1000 Gen 2, 114-horsepower engine New stronger, redesigned chassis Lower-geared transmission Slightly more legroom and lower seating position.
