Helle hello! Today I’m sharing one of my favourite projects I’ve completed in the past couple of years - a completely hand sewn, semi-fitted 40’s inspired camp collar shirt! This shirt is one of those projects where lots of long winded sewing plans came together: I’ve been wanting to sew a garment completely by hand for many months, I’ve been meaning to make a more fitted camp collar shirt for years, and I’ve been hoarding this vintage fabric for this exact purpose for even longer. So it only feels natural to divide this post into three: method of construction, pattern, and fabric. The Method ..read more

Hello! It’s been ages since my last post, but today I’m back with my annual Make Nine update. 2023 has been a strange year to say the least. At the beginning of the year I had every intention of posting here at least once a month, but I started writing for Threads Magazine in February which meant all of my creativity and free time to work on personal articles was transferred to writing monthly digital ambassador articles. It has been an incredible experience working with Threads, and I’m hoping to continue writing for them at some capacity but I also want to do my best to maintain my more pers ..read more

Click to go to the dedicated Instagram post about this project! I like to start the new year off strong by tackling one of my Make Nine items early in the year, and this year was no exception! For my first big project of 2023, I decided to jump in and make a canvas front, tailored waistcoat and some matching pleated trousers. I’ve been wanting to try my hand at tailoring for many many months at this point, and I feel like a waistcoat is the perfect place to start. After making my first Veronica Vest from Just Patterns, I knew I wanted to make a more tailored, structured version, and I knew my ..read more

Hello hello! It’s the 1st of January so you know what time it is - time to do an update on last year’s Make Nine list and give you my new plans for the year! I love writing these posts, and I honestly can’t belive this is the third one I’m writing. It’s such a nice opportunity for reflecting on my projects from the past year and see how my skills have developed over the course of 12 months. 2022 was a big year for me - I spent the first half of it working on finishing my Master’s degree where I got to interview so many of my dearest sewing friends and spent an incredibly hectic 25 days writing ..read more

Hey hey hey! I have a wonderful collaborative project to share with you today. Liz from @bylizchick reached out to me back in March to see if I would be interested in sewing something using custom dyed fabric she would send me - I jumped on the opportunity because her work is just gorgeous! She uses food and floral waste to dye fabric and second hand garments and creates the most beautiful pieces. The Fabric We decided on a colourway of “dirty olive” with a subtle print and Liz got to work! Here’s how she described her process of dyeing this fabric: The undyed textile was sourced from a fabri ..read more

Hello everyone! I know it’s been a while but I’m (hopefully) back to posting regularly. Since it’s the first day of the new year, I thought I would update you on where I stand with my Make Nine plans for 2021 and give you my new Make Nine for 2022! Wrap up for Make Nine 2021 2021 has been an… “interesting” year to say the least. My personal life has been a complete chaos full of big, big emotions, but in the end I think I’m a better person than the 2020 Nisan. I learned so much in 2021 in regards to making my own clothes: I’m feeling much happier with my trouser and button up shirt constructio ..read more

Hello! If you’ve been following me on Instagram for a while, you may have noticed that I like finding a pattern I love and making a million versions of it. I have 5 pairs of Persephone pants, two pairs of Acajou pants, many many Tyra tees and Eva tops but one pattern in particular takes the cake when it comes to being made multiple times: the one, the only, the ever so beautiful Olya Shirt by Paper Theory! I recently made my 10th one, so I thought I would write a blog post reviewing it and giving a couple of tips for those of you who are interested in making one - or 10! Now, Olya was the fir ..read more

Hello hello! This is my 1 year anniversary on Instagram, and I wanted to celebrate by giving back to this wonderful community. Whenever I mention the fact that I’m a self taught sewist, I get tons of questions about the resources I used to teach myself how to sew and how to make clothes. Well, I have been working on compiling a list of my favourite resources before I even started this blog, and I’m happy to announce that it’s finally here! So What Is This List? Before we begin, I would like to clarify the nature of the following list of resources: This is not meant to be a comprehensive and ex ..read more
