Suggestions for shared cinema/gym and wood workshop

About to start the conversion. Largely doing it myself. Turning doubly garage into home theatre and gym. The problem is I’ve started getting more and more into DIY and wood working projects and it would be nice to have a space to do that. Conscious that even with a shop vac there is a stupendous amount of dust involved and I don’t want to ruin my expensive cinema equipment. I’m thinking: 1. One big shared space but with some sort of moveable wall situation for enclosing the space when cutting wood. A tarp would just look too messy and kill the mancave vibe. 2. Building a separate space for wo ..read more

Racedeck respacing?

Recently bought a house with existing racedeck. One part was overlapping where car is normally parked creating a tripping hazard. Should I pull and replace the whole run to the garage opening? Or should I just trim these tiles and epoxy them to the cement?? First time caller long time listener. submitted by /u/Adventurous-Bat-5009 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Belt drive vs side mount opener below bedroom?

I have belt drive garage door opener below the bedroom (right under the bed)…and it’s fairly noticeable noise/vibration when garage door opens and closes. Question: Would side mounted garage door opener be more quiet? Im thinking the motor would be near the wall (away from where the bed), motor would be mounted on the wall vs ceiling. Does it make sense…will I hear/feel major noise reduction (I want almost silent)? submitted by /u/yeah_come_on [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi. I looked around a bit and saw that people asked questions, so I hope this is okay. I'm moving to be closer to the toddler grand kids. Their riding and other toys are bulky (as opposed to a thin bike, for example) because that's how they come for little kids. I'd like to keep them in the garage, but together in one place, to avoid them migrating all over the garage. I might even put a tarp over them so they don't get dusty. I like a well-organized garage, but how to do this is a puzzle. I've looked around, but all the storage images are of cabinets, which are too narrow. I'd almost like on ..read more

Seal Krete Epoxy-Seal floor paint issue

I have painted my garage floor with a Rust-oleum product called Seal Krete Epoxy-Seal. The end result was great. Floor looks beautiful. The problem is that the surface is NOW (versus prior) picking up tracks from tires and even shoe traffic. We live in the Phoenix area which is hot. I believe I have identified the source of the tracking to the sealer that is used on parking lots and the road that runs past the front of the house. Weird thing is that there are no tracks on the concrete apron leading to the garage floor, only on the newly painted floor itself. My questions are, has anyone else ..read more

Garage storage rack hooks?

I have a garage storage rack similar to the Yukon one from harbor freight. Any ideas on hooks I can attach to hang items from the side or front? Hooks I can stick on to the columns? I was also thinking of getting plastic plugs to cover the holes. Any ideas on the search term for hooks I can put around the plastic plugs before I push them in? submitted by /u/kaws510 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Inside finishing (drywall alternatives)

Hope this is the place for questions. I am building a detached garage in the coming weeks, wondering what some of you may have used for your walls? The most common in my area are drywall or OSB. Anyone used corregated steel or vinyl siding on the inside? I have heard of this but looking for first hand experience. Also interested in any other ideas. Not really worried about code restrictions/regulations, just looking for what others have done. Size will be 26'x24'. Located in Atlantic Canada, if anyone wants to know. Thanks! submitted by /u/natejm23 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
