The Garage Journal

I know this has been talked about, but I haven't found anything exactly the same as I'm doing yet. And I'm running out of time and serious really need help on this from the willing or experienced. I'm in the NW and looking to to insulate my pole shed ceiling with bats of paper faced fiberglass insulation. There's already the usual fiberglass roll insulation with white plastic vapor barrier between the metal roofing and 2X6 purlins - see in pics. Would adding insulation under that... Small box culvert construction
The Garage Journal
by Hank11

I want to build a small box culvert to allow driving and walking over a swale at the entrance to my shop. I'm thinking about 18" across by 4" high. I'd pour a flat slab 24" X 10 ', then two curbs at 4" high on top of that, then a place a slab on top of the curbs to cap it. In the end, a 4" tall X 18" wide box culvert. Before anyone suggests it, I don't have enough height to put in a big round culvert. Severl smaller round culverts might work but I think would clog easier than a wide box... Read more ..read more

Hi, I have come into the possesion of a Skilsaw Model 4580 Jigsaw. The lever assembly which locks the tilting shoe in place and the associated roller have been unassembled. I can't figure out how they go back together. If anyone has a saw of this type I would really appreciate a picture of that area properly assembled. I have attached a picture of the saw and a section of the parts diagram showing the area of interest. (Parts #'s; 55,59,64 and the spring above #59.) Thanks for any help I may... Compact manual transfer switches

This is part of the planning for the automated battery backup I have a thread going on. The inverter will do the automated switching, but I want to have a way to bypass the inverter and keep the circuits powered up. I am tight on space, so I am hoping to find something fairly compact. Could be rated as low as 50a 120v (inverter will be 120v and either 3kva or 5kva) Not interested in no-name imported junk on Amazon or Ali-x. Any suggestions ..read more

Recommissioning a mini-split?
The Garage Journal

I say 'recommissioning' because all of the freon has leaked out, so I'm starting from scratch. I have a Mitsubishi mini-split. I know the first thing I need to do is find and repair the system leak. I have a nitrogen set-up to pressure-test the system, and have the flaring tool, should the lines need re-flaring. I have gauges, a micron gauge, a vacuum pump, R410a, and a scale to weigh it in. I've installed several of these unites, but they were all pre-charged. Questions- 1) Do I pressure... Read more ..read more

Compressor 230v with 115v plug?
The Garage Journal

I recently picked up a free Craftsman 4HP compressor which I was told was working fine and it runs for about a minute before bogging down to a standstill and then trips the thermal switch on the motor. The guy I got it from said he never actually used it but the neighbor who gave it to him used it all the time with no issues. I've been doing tons of searching around and ruled out the switch. I thought maybe it was the run cap so for a $9 gamble I replaced that and it still did the same... Read more ..read more

I can't figure out what make this is. But I want to get some dies going. -Throat depth is 12" in the frame. -Shaft diameter is 28.25 mm Questions -Anyone know the make? -Im assuming this will not fit Pexto dies, or any of the other Popular brands (shafts seem too large from I've read)? -assuming I can't really purchase other dies, thoughts on turning the shafts down to the same size as pexto? Is that 22mm ..read more
