Speed Skaters of all levels must wear a helmet that meets primarily the American ASTM F-1849 standard or another homologation recognized by the ISU, such as the European EN1078.
In addition, helmets that follow the head as rounded shape as possible are requested, with no ventilation openings which the blade can come through.
Skaters must ensure that the helmet strap is properly tightened so that the helmet remains firmly in place throughout the competition.

The following is a summary of the equipment used by short track speed skaters under the ISU rules:
Helmets
The Short Track competitor must choose a helmet currently suitable for speed skating in the US ASTM (possibly other, ISU approved) rating system.
The helmet must follow the rounded shape, without protrusions, and have only a minimum ventilation opening not exceeding a few millimeters.
Cut resistant gloves
Skaters must wear cut-resistant gloves in accordance with the international cut protection regulations EN388.

Stricter safety standards coming from July 1 2022, according to ISU communications, which expects a level 3, full cut-resistant suit from a Senior / A / B short-track competitor in ISU competitions.

After a succesfull career in long track speed skating and inline skating, Edward Hagen started developing equipment for speed skating sports since 1988.
