For example, in 1962 Spider-Man made his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 as a naïve, idealistic teenager. He’s a nerdy high school kid who suddenly gets great power. But if Marvel were obeying the laws of nature, Spider-Man should now be 77 years old. He’d spend less time web-slinging criminals and more time web-crocheting mittens, and he ..read more

Back in 1969, comic book artist and writer Larry Fuller created a black superhero character, Ebon, who becomes mild-mannered alien Valentine Jones by day. Only one comic book was published instead of a series. This year 2022, academic professors John Jennings and Stacey Robinson collaborated with Fuller to expand upon his original character and comic book, adding a backstory, a unique written alien language, a mythological pantheon of “oracles,” and connections to current cultural events and Afrofuturism concepts. An exhibition of the project is on view at UC Riverside, California from March 1 ..read more

I was lucky to have a theater all to myself to watch this motion picture, otherwise I would had been trying my hardest to hold back the tears from rolling down my face.  Spiderman: No Way Home will pull at your heart-strings, especially when hearing words from a certain distant relative which set the momentum to the plot.  A film full of past memories fused with the present challenges your humanity.  The fanservice (material intentionally added to please the audience) thickens the plot as well, an achievement not many films could have executed as effectively.   To ..read more
