Helicopter pleasure flight company Adventure 001 have made a further £50,000 donation to Cornwall Air Ambulance. The funds were raised through the 2023 event programme, thanks to the hard work and efforts from everyone in the team. Cornwall Air Ambulance is delighted to announce that its 2023 Christmas Carol Concert will be held on 1st December at Truro Methodist Church. Music on the night will feature performances from St Dennis Band, City of Truro Male Choir and the award-winning Cornwall Youth Choir. A schoolgirl has written a song to raise awareness of Cornwall Air Ambulance after the charity’s paramedics saved her mum’s life multiple times. Isla, now aged nine, became inspired by the charity’s work following a number of lifesaving interventions to help mum Carrie. She has not only raised over £5,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance since but also wrote and put words to the beautiful song ‘Flying High’. A former patient from the Isles of Scilly has very kindly left a gift in her Will to Cornwall Air Ambulance after both she and her husband were airlifted. Ursula Schweer, known as Usch, chose to leave a lasting legacy to your charity after sadly passing away. Neighbour and friend, Mark Praeger, was the Executor to her Will. Cornwall Air Ambulance is pleased to welcome Captain Pete McCormick to the aircrew. Pete has had an impressive and varied career as a helicopter pilot, first joining the Royal Navy in 1996. He was based at RNAS Culdrose within the 814 then 820 squadrons, spent three years on an exchange job in Canada, then returned to 771 Naval Air Squadron Search & Rescue. He then went onto work within airport surveillance and control, including a year in Afghanistan. In 2012 he left the Navy and went to work within both instruction and search and rescue in Trinidad. Cornwall Air Ambulance is proud to be supporting National Blood Bikes Awareness Day and celebrating our close partnership work with Cornwall Blood Bikes. The day (11th August 2023) celebrates the 35 Blood Bike groups across the country, with over 4,500 volunteers providing a free service to the NHS and associated partners. The crew have been carrying blood products on board your helicopter since December 2020, giving the crew the option to start transfusions before a patient even reaches hospital. Cornwall Air Ambulance and Vision Zero South West have released a podcast about road safety, following a spate of serious and fatal crashes in recent months. In 2022 Cornwall Air Ambulance was tasked to 1,050 incidents, with 127 of these being road traffic collisions. An exclusive black-tie 007 Heli Dinner, organised by charity Ambassador Dr Karen J Dickens, has raised an incredible £105,000 to help fund future Cornwall Air Ambulance missions.
