Want scooters to get off of sidewalks? Here's what we've learned about “pavement” riding from one Superpedestrian City
Superpedestrian Blog

If you’ve ridden a Superpedestrian e-scooter this year in Nottingham and rode on the sidewalk (or “pavement” as they’re called in the UK), you may have received a message reminding you to ride on the road. That’s because since November of 2022, we’ve been collecting data from sensors onboard the vehicles that know whether you’re riding on the road or on sidewalks. Then, we’re contacting sidewalk riders to let them know that they should be riding in the street. Pavement riding is not allowed in the UK e-scooter trials, and Superpedestrian and Nottingham City Council have been working together t ..read more

It’s no secret that we love Vienna. We blogged about hitting 1 million rides in the World’s Most Liveable City back in 2022, and we are thrilled to share that we will be continuing our service in Vienna! It was announced today that the Vienna City Council gave us the greenlight to stay in Vienna for the next three years. We’re both humbled and ecstatic about the trust that the city has extended to us to keep serving riders and non-riders alike.  As we look forward to the next three years, we wanted to highlight a couple initiatives that we’re excited about in Vienna.  Rider education ..read more

Photo credit: Chris Pietsch, The Register-Guard Have you ever seen someone dressed as a slug? And have you seen that person ride an e-scooter? Now that we’ve rolled out our service in Eugene, we’ve seen a Slug Queen ride a scooter, and it was as joyfully quirky as you’re imagining. Eugene, for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of visiting, is a medium-sized city in Oregon, and home of the University of Oregon. In addition to the campus, Eugene has several bungalow-filled neighborhoods, a gorgeous riverfront trail, a deep running track record, and a delightfully weird attitude. Eugene ..read more

We're getting creative for sustainability

Sustainability starts with design We built our Superpedestrian e-scooters from the ground up, and in a time when shared scooters lasted barely a month, we were engineering ours to last six years. We still have the longest scooter lifespan in the industry, with our earliest scooters still going strong. By investing up front in good design and rugged materials, we reduce the materials needed for manufacturing, are able to ensure our vehicles are built with 100% recyclable materials, and reduce the need for transporting new vehicles, the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the indu ..read more

Superpedestrian joined Dott, Lime, Tier, and Voi in an indiustry-first, issuing recommendations to European cities with the aim of helping cities establish strong e-scooter and e-bike programs that serve city residents and meet city goals. The ten recommendations are the result of months of collaboration between the five micromobility companies, and are signed by each of the companies’ CEOs. The recommendations are a result of pooling a vast breadth of knowledge about micromobility — Superpedestrian and the other companies together operate over three quarters of a million vehicles over 37 cou ..read more

We’re kicking off the new year with the announcement of a new partnership! As a major micromobility provider in Europe, Superpedestrian was selected as a new member of Micro-Mobility for Europe (MMfE), a coalition of micromobility operators that works with policymakers at the local, national, and European levels. We strongly believe that micromobility can make our streets safer, provide a more reliable transportation network in cities, and help address the climate crisis. But, as with many young industries, there is a fragmented landscape of regulations that creates uncertainty for operators ..read more

In April 2021, Superpedestrian rolled out our bright yellow scooters in what was just our 30th city. Now, a little over a year later, riders in Vienna have taken more than 1 million rides on Superpedestrian scooters, avoiding more than 100,000 car trips and avoiding 13.5 tons of carbon emissions.  We love Vienna for its historic charm, walkability, public transportation, and green spaces. And, we’re not alone in loving Vienna -- the city was once again named the World’s Most Liveable City this year. To celebrate our 1 millionth ride, we’re highlighting the important role our scooters hav ..read more

Game time for sidewalk tech as Chicago puts Pedestrian Defense to the urban canyon test The Sidewalk Challenge: London and Paris put e-scooter operators on notice: prove you can keep scooters off the sidewalk, or your services will no longer be welcome. Now, Chicago joins the mix. The City of Chicago’s 2021 pilot scooter program evaluation included a startling failure: …scooter vendors committed to bringing sidewalk riding detection technology to demonstrate in the city. However, no vendors ultimately deployed this technology. Now, with its pilot poised to become permanent, C ..read more
