Assuming a coin is fair, suppose I flip it five times. Which is more likely to occur first: HHH or TTHH? Here are the possible ways of obtaining TTHH: TTHHH TTHHT HTTHH TTTHH Two of these rolls take five flips to obtain TTHH while two take four flips to obtain TTHH. Here are the possible ways of obtaining HHH and not TTHH: HHHHH HHHTT HHHTH HHHHT THHHT THHHH TTHHH HTHHH HHH appears four times in three flips, twice in four flips, and twice in five flips. Since every flip is equally... If I flip a coin five times, which is more likely to occur first: HHH or TTHH ..read more

The number of minutes it takes for a certain animal to react to a certain stimulus is a random number between 2 and 4.3. Find the probability that the reaction time of such an animal to this stimulus is no longer than 3.25 minutes. Does this mean between \(\displaystyle 2\) minutes and \(\displaystyle 3.25\) minutes ..read more

Hoping that I can get help with this question: A student takes a five-question true-false quiz. She is guessing, but she knows her teacher puts more true than false questions on the quiz. What is her probability of passing the quiz? Here is what I thought (but it's off): There are either 3, 4 or 5 questions correct to pass. case 1 5 questions correct: There are either 3 true, 4 true or 5 true answers. So, P = (C(5,5) / [C(5,3) + C(5, 4) + C(5,5)] P = 1/16 case 2 4 questions correct... Help with Probability Question ..read more

I understand what standard deviation is and the formula to calculate it. I'm studying what a 'normal distribution' is and I found this: "For a normal distribution, 68% of the observations are within +/- one standard deviation of the mean, 95% are within +/- two standard deviations, and 99.7% are within +- three standard deviations. ". I don't understand what they mean by "one standard deviation of the mean", "two standard deviations" and "three standard deviations". When... What are Standard DeviationS ..read more

How do I perform a rank transformation?

I've learned that 4 types of transformation exist: RT-1, RT-2, RT-3, RT-4. I'm not sure which one(s) should apply for me. I intend to use Welch T-Test, ANOVA (Welch F-Test) and Games-Howell Pairwise tests. Maybe a few more. An example I got was: [86, 95, 40] is transformed to [2, 3, 1] [11, 35, 35, 52] becomes [1, 2.5, 2.5, 4]. (2.5 ?) My data is pretty straight forward. It should be a single list of groups (arrays) of numbers. None of the groups will have sub groups (no arrays of... How do I perform a rank transformation ..read more

An office orders computer accessories from one of three vendors A, B, or C. Orders are to be placed on two successive days, one order per day. Thus, (A, C) might denote that vendor A gets the order on the first day and C gets the order on the second day. The sample space of the experiment of ordering accessories on two successive days is: Select one or more: a. S = {(A, A), (B, B), (C, C)} b. S = {(A, A), (A, B), (B, A), (B, B), (A, C), (C, A), (B, C), (C, B), (C, C)} c. S = {(A... Can you please answer my questions ..read more
