There is apparantly a dead spot up around the north-east corner of French Island where the tidal flows split east and west. A sort of slack tide area most of the time. I know of some fishers who used to do well fishing a hole up around that area from Lang Lang but I haven't tried fishing the area personally. I think that is in the mosquito channel? The area known for Mulloway. Statistics: Posted by Widsa — Mon May 06, 2024 11:19 am ..read more

yeah Thanks guys . It must be something like that around there . As slack water is not known as a a good fishing time , perhaps area no one has hung round to see as I assume it would only be most noticble in a shallow area and no one wants to be there waiting . Maybe a researcher one day . Statistics: Posted by bruyaka — Sun May 05, 2024 9:58 am ..read more

Eric we have had fish in the dam for more than 30 years, firstly the Yellowbelly then two varieties of trout. The trout died out the Yella’s lived, got big and died out replacing themselves with new fish. Before the bushfire there was a protracted drought, there was only a puddle of water at that time. Helicopters repeatedly water bombed the house and saved it but almost emptied out what water was left. As you can imagine, carbon filled the dam and suffocated the few fish we had, but after the drought they were emancipated anyway. Those were Yellowbelly Over the years they reached about 2 1/2 ..read more

Good question. I always notice a weird swirling vortex around Joe's Island. The water swirls there quite a lot and when driving the boat through there I always feel it shifting the boat around. It might just be the flowing water around the island though Statistics: Posted by Widsa — Fri May 03, 2024 1:29 am ..read more

Ok this may be a really stupid question , but . Is there a spot in Western Port Bay where when the tide has peaked , some of the outgoing flows to the eastern entrance and some to the west . Statistics: Posted by bruyaka — Thu May 02, 2024 10:08 am ..read more

Hey Dig; Fortunately I am still vertical (most of the time), and just like you I haven't been able to wet a line much. Hopefully, with a mild autumn forecast, with light winds (hopefully), I will achieve my goal to get the yak wet a few times for 2024. I had some great plans but life just got in the way................... And.................? It's now tomorrow, so how big are the yellas? Thanks Erik mate, I lost about 3/4 of my gear in the fire but have enough to have a fish if I get around to it thanks. May last year I stocked my dam with Yellas and Aussie Perch, 100 each. I vowed to leave them alone for the first 2 years and that is this month so now I will drop a line in (tomorrow) and will see if I can get a bite to see how big they are. Of course the Cormorants haven’t got enough with the 90 mile beach, the biggest salt water lakes in Oz and all the rivers! No, they have to come here and eat my bloody fish! So I’m not sure how many have survived this far to be honest. I ..read more
