Had an long time client want a onboard Captain trip on his boat. Plan was to go for the three bass slam. Set out from Fort Washington Marina early morning. The carp where spawning in the marina and what a ruckus they where making. Pushing boats around and splashing and jumping. It was something to behold and hear. Any way made to the run down to Greenway flats and started catching LGMouth on chrome rattle trap. Lost a convict bass at the boat also. Landed a good number of LGMouth and moved on to smallmouth bass. But not bites so we moved further south to Chapmans Point and ran into a mile lo ..read more

I fished CBBT and Rudee on May 2-3, 2024. On May 2nd, the calm day, I brought home 4 keeper tautog. I took advantage on a rale calm day nowadays. On May 3rd, with the strong wind in the afternoon, I experienced the only bad day in my entire Rudee fishing life. Because I, and all of the fishermen had very high expectations on that day. Prior to the day, Rudee was a hot place for Large chopper bluefish, gator trout, large speckled trout, large red fish, and sheepshead. Unfortunately, I hit the bad day. I missed the windows of 1-3 weeks I used finger mullet, shrimp, soft and hard lures. Mirr ..read more

Missing Kayak Fisherman Found Dead Outside Philly

https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news...river/3848709/ I had been following this story closely because I used to fish that area (from the bank) when I lived in suburban Philly. Obviously was hoping for a better outcome. The man seemed like he was an experienced kayak fisherman and that section of the river isn't particularly dangerous, so tough to speculate on what might have happened. As fishing season kicks into gear, just a reminder to be careful out there ..read more

Puppy drum question

When do the puppy drum start showing up in the creeks? Or are they there in the spring? I don’t know much about it. I was fishing last year in early June and talking to a local guy on his dock. I asked him if he had seen any reds and he said they hadn’t showed up yet. In South Carolina I’ve caught them all winter long. Not sure how it works in VA. Are they out in the bay until it hits a certain temp ..read more

What to fish for at Assateague?

This upcoming weekend I’m one of the adult chaperones for a scout camping trip to assateague. Going to throw in my kayak and hopefully get a chance to get some fishing in while the scouts are working on their kayaking merit badges. I have never fished out on the coast. I expect I’ll stick mostly to the back bay, but I have no idea what species to target or techniques to use in this area this time of year. Any general tips? I’m just happy to be getting out—I upgraded to a hobie compass this spring but haven’t even had time to get it in the water yet! Worst case scenario it’s a shakedown trip ..read more

Crappie or crappy fishing. I do not know....Fished like it was March with only 62 degree water. Stayed in center of creek and started out good with 4 crappie in the first hour. But after that is just sizzled out as the sun came up and temps warmed up. Moved around a lot and caught some cats and three gar. Ended with 6 crappie and 4 cats. Put a fork in it, this season is done. Capt Mike ..read more

Is anyone fishing for large bluefish on the DE or MD coast now?

In May 2015, I caught 8 bluefish trolling from my kayak near Cape Henlopen. They ranged in size from 32" to 39". In May 2017, bluefish showed up in Isle of Wight Bay next to Ocean City. A friend and I caught blues in the upper 20s all morning until our arms ached. I have not been back to the DE or MD coast to try for bluefish since then. If any Snaggedline member knows of places where large bluefish can be targeted by kayak and is willing to share that intel, please let me know. You can post here or send me a private message. Thank you ..read more

Wind was light from SE today and a bit chilly with the light rain. Water temps stayed again at 64 degrees. No warming trend except last night was warmer. Fished today like it was March in the center of the creeks. Deep minnows and 12 rods out to cover open water. Picked at them most of the day and did OK. Snakehead in the last 15 minutes was a bonus.
