12V or 5V on alarm wire

Hi All, I am using my old 2 and 4 wire alarm system (26awg copper) wiring to send power to ESP devices and Tablets. The max length is 75 to 100 ft. I can either send 12V and step it down to 5V or just send 5V? The max amperage is probably 1A. Further, with a 4 wire cable, what are the pros and cons of having 2 wires 5V and 2 wires 12V, or combining 2 wires for + and 2 wires for - (12v or 5v). Thanks in advance. Peter ..read more

I have an older Power832/5010 system that has worked flawlessly since I installed it over a decade ago. I encountered by first problem the other day. One of my PIR motion sensors, a DX40, went bonkers - flashing wildly. I had purchased a few spares, so I grabbed a new one and thought I could hot swap it. Well, that didn't work too well. The lights on the sensor lit up briefly and then went out, along with my three 5500Z panels. Hmmm... I left the new DX40 installed and decided to reboot the... DSC Power832 Glitch ..read more

Why Can't I split my Security Camera cable to two different monitors?

I have an outdoor security camera from HarborFreight ( Bunker Hill) see photo. It uses wire similar to common land line phone wire with what I think is called RJ11 modular jacks. These are the clear plastic jacks which snap into the female with a click. I wanted to split this camera cable to view the security camera on two different monitors on different floors of my home. But when I connected a typical phone line splitter, the signal was unviewable ( garbled, distorted). Is there a... Why Can't I split my Security Camera cable to two different monitors ..read more

I have internet service through the cable company. It comes into the modem and then to the router. A year ago I purchased a TP Link WiFi extender and I was able to set it up and it worked great. The password for the extender was the same as the password for my router. Fast forward a year and we got a new router with a new password. Our devices can no longer connect to the internet through the extender. The devices can connect to the extender but we get a message "connected without... TP-Link Mesh WiFi Extender ..read more

Received Blink cameras for my birthday, and they were set up last night, which took all evening. We ran outside to check the distance then drove around the block. I’ve been glued to them all evening and this morning. They need adjusted because I got a low battery warning as they were recording traffic. I wanted one but two are better and now I’d like one in the backyard to see what little critters visit at night. On my way to Walmart to buy more batteries but it’s Florida, so I’m sure... Small Outdoor Security Night Camera recommendation

I'm looking for a recommendation for an outdoor security camera that I'll probably only use once. I see tons of stuff on Amazon, like an Augele Mini Camera, Fakespot says it's rated "A", but most of the posts I see are negative - I don't know what to believe anymore. I have a Ring camera on my deck - looking at my driveway, and a Ring doorbell camera at my front door. Neither one is capturing what I need to see. What's happening is this, some weirdo is dumping his garbage on top of my... Small Outdoor Security Night Camera recommendation ..read more

Need help with smoke alarms and Honeywell Vista 20p

Hi! I just updated my Honeywell home alarm system with Internet connection with Envisalink. Unfortunately, while testing things out, I discovered that the alarms were not showing up on the panel. We have two smoke alarms, wired together so that if one has an alarm, they both trigger. The alarms work fine locally. We had a minor fire about six years ago and the Honeywell system triggered just fine. The only changes to the system since then were changing the two alarms to Kidde KN-COSM after...
