Hello!  I'm trying to install Windows XP SP3 x86 with patches and a huge driver pack onto my semi-modern PC. The issue is that when I attempt to boot off the installer, when it gets to the "Setup is starting Windows" section, the DVD drive shuts down and a black screen is displayed. I think this has to do something with the USB 3.0 drivers that are loaded, so I would appreciate any help. @jaclaz @Andalu I'm getting the annoying problem of the driver installation dialogue popping up when I mount a disk, and it telling me that the driver isn't signed. I don't seem to be able to override this warning, and I've done some further investigation on this. It now seems that almost every driver file on my system says it's unsigned if I look at the file details in Device Manager. This includes the Microsoft driver files using original system files, which should be signed of course. CPU's stuck at base clock (3.4 MHz), and doesn't want to budge. Guessing it's ACPI, but only guessing. Current ACPI.sys is 5.1.2600.7777; tried 5.2.3790.7777, but that just bluescreens. My HW is obviously unsupported, but x64 XP installed on the same box works without any issues. -  Is ACPI the likely culprit? - Are there other modded ACPI.sys versions i could try? Hi, I try to install XP SP3 on the Shuttle Hot 433 board with 486 cpu. But very early in Setup comes a message, that the 486 cpu does not support the hex opcode cmpxchg8b  and so XP cant be installed. I also try an XP SP3 from another compi in IDE mode, crash at once. Now I look at the hex wíth Ida pro for this cmpxchg8b on an ready XP SP3 install. On a first try I find it in ntoskrnl.exe (one cpu) and in ntdll.dll. Well, Im trying to install XP on Modern PC because it has Legacy Boot, why not? so. I first disabled ACPI as it doesnt work thus its not much of a real "thing", now Im with AHCI. I first made it work at installer and OOBE. but in real boot. It makes the 0x7B AHCI BSOD that I fixed in OOBE. And the nLite patched ISO with correct AHCI driver did like open something, make an error and disappear. Need heelppp ..read more
